I saw that she passed away -- what a long life. Crazy how something that iconic could have such a backstory (you should all read about it elsewhere, if you don't know). That lady had no idea what was going on, and was NOT receptive. The last line of that article says a lot, though those were much different times back then and a much different mood of the day.
This photo is immortalized in a statue outside the USS Missouri, and is a major photo stop when visiting. I've explained the story to many, but it's funny how so many choose not to believe it because the truth differs from the image in their minds.
