War Adviser Considers Military Draft

Have fun you young-uns !

Already served and I'm too old and fat now to have to worry about it.
 
Been there, done that. Maybe they'll cut way back on the exemptions this time.
 
I honestly doubt it would happen, but part of me really wishes it does. I'm 24 as of monday, did 4 years in military school ready to take a commission, only to loose it due to an old injury. I took a job as a DoD contractor to kind of still be involved and I feel like I'm helping out all my buddies over there right now. Regardless, I hear about all these great guys over there, talk to my buddies over there and really feel like that's where I'm supposed to be too. Some of the guys I trained while in school are over there right now using things I've taught them.

I told my boss that if something comes up again and I can sneak in, I'm going and I would hope there would be a place left in the company for me when I got back. He said there would be. Not sure how I'd handle the mortgage while I'm gone, but I guess we'd figure it out.

I guess what I'm trying to say that this is one guy, who if he gets called up, will do it with a smile on his face (except the leaving the GF/fiance part, she'd be a complete wreck).

Ditto. Old women and priests will go before I become eligible.There should be no exemptions. Women should register. An W's daughters should be the first to go.

I have a throwback mentality, I still think the everyone should do a 2 year ride of military service to help support and make payment on the Price of Freedom.....

But again, thats just this old Army guy talking

Every able bodied man in this here United States should have mandatory service. At least you'll know how to use a weapon in an emergency. I also AGREE THAT W's kids kids should serve. Every politician who make the decision to send our sons and daughters into harm's way should include their offsprings.
 
I cant serve so im not worried. But um as a alternative, we could pull out and stop draining our resources on that crap shack of a country. I've said it many times, I have no problem fighting for our freedoms but there hasn't been a war worth fighting since the cold war.
 
I think a great alternative would be to let those who cant serve perform some comunity service in the fire dept hospital or old peoples home for 2years.

I'm with you on this one.
 
I too think that serving is good for the maturity rate. And as someone that has served and is past their prime, I understand the need for the draft. But as a mother of a son that will turn 18 in less than a year, I hope that it doesn't happen just yet.

Along with every child of every Senator and Congress Critter that voted to approve the action and its funding.

After all, it would only be fair for every politician that sent our men and women into battle to share the burden without singling out any one person or party, wouldn't it? :whistling:
 
Lead by example is what they all have to learn but since Dubya is the CinC he holds the most responsibility IMO. So we'll send him twice and everyone else once!

Of course I might be a Little Jaded here. But from an on the ground perspective, we are doing the right thing in Iraq, is it costly? Hell yes in $$$ and blood. But there is a larger danger that no one like to look at. And that is what will happen if Iraq is left in a state that it cannot fight off the Radical Islam extremest, as best as I can tell, and again this is just my Combat Zone Tax Exclusion 2 cents, we fight it now while it is still somewhat unorganized, or our kids fight in what will amount to a Holy Crusade.

Not trying to step on any toes. And this is a topic that can start very heated dialog, so I will do my best to not post on this subject in the future. You guys/gals here are more important to me than to get caught in a debate over this.

That's why we practice a no politics policy here. This has potential to turn ugly. Hopefully it doesn't. :)
 
It was doing quite well before we got there and now we have to fix a problem of our own making. Civilian leadership makes the decisions and the Generals say "Yes Sir" and make it happen. Since we know our men and women are doing a superb job and can follow orders it must mean that the decision makers aren't doing too well. You win wars with overwhelming firepower, better strategy or being more creative then the enemy. We have the firepower but aren't using it well because of "collateral damage". We have the creativity but can't put it on the ground so that leaves a failure of strategy. You can't win by just being determined to win you have to have the other pieces too. Look at Japan and how determined they were, more so then the current insurgents IMO but they didn't have the firepower or strategy. In Vietnam we again had the firepower and determination but never did have the correct strategy nor were we very creative.

Just something to think about from someone who has had a few tax free checks too.
