We've lost a planet.

Eh, no good stinking lazy Pluto...good riddance.
Has Pluto sent any ambassadors to earth lately? NO!
Has Pluto gotten off its lazy ass to develop an atmosphere? NO!
Has Pluto been hospitable to living organisms, and become a willing receptor for life? NO!
Has Pluto sent you flowers? NO!
Has Pluto sent me any cigars lately? NO!
Has Pluto become more regular in its orbit? NO!
Has Pluto worked on developing all of the other qualities that make one a PLANET? NO!
SO, PLUTO, until you get your freaking act together, you can hang out, but you'll never be a planet. Not on my watch.

Mark me down as one of the "Damn straight, take THAT Pluto..." camp.

Yes, but we've gained more than a dozen "dwarf planets", including Pluto, Sedna, and Ceres. Gentleman, this calls for a cigar. I'm lighting up something nice tonight in honor of our new additions.

Remember the glass is half full.

Isn't Ceres a comet? Or did that definition change, too?

now they have to change all the text books and tell all the kids that uranus is the last planet in our solar system hahahahhaa

It will be back. Half the planets don't fit the new definition including Earth. Less than 5% of the world's astronomers even voted.

It's better than gaining 50+ new planets that would have to fall under the same definition as Pluto (Although Planet Xena would be one I'd like to visit ;) )

It's an asteroid that used to be classified as a planet (it's in the article - although I didn't know that it's demotion as a planet was where the term asteroid came from)

Why would it 'be back'? Not that it's impossible, but it's not the first time a planet has been de-classified (Ceres is still classified as an asteroid since it's demotion).

Works for me, I don't like dwarf planets, they shouldn't be allowed to procreate as it makes asteroids.
