The rules in the B/S/T forum state that a member must be an "Active Member" over 4 months in order to post for sale and trades. What exactly makes a member "Active"? Is one post a month enough? Two a year? Or can a person post in here for a while, neglect their account and then come back and expect to unload their sticks on us?

Good question!

You are an inactive, active member... J/K

Active IMO, means just that, someone who is around, participates, helps, etc. Having a low post count does not make him inactive. Having said that, posting
1 x a month would make him an inactive member.

Works for me.

I just don't like the idea of people opening an account here and using it for the sole purpose of selling cigars. I don't think that is very 'active' at all. I think that falls along the lines of profiteering. I know that post count mean nothing but it does say a lot about our participation in this community. Post count doesn't make you a FOG but it does show how much you participate. If someone has been a member here for over 2 yrs. and only has 40 post I'd venture to say that is an Inactive member.......

While a minimum posts/unit time rule could define activity and inactivity, it merely encourages abusers to make the minimum number of (innane) posts before making a B/S/T offer. I think this is a case of "we know it when we see it."

The lad that Matt is pointing to clearly fails the definition of Active. I was going to suggest a pass, but then I looked at his posts. Mostly post padding, say nothing posts. Nah, I don't think so. The spirit of the rule is that individual sales be conducted by members of the community only. That is a status, a rank if you will that is conferred by the other members.

I think this is another case of you'll know it when you see it. I don't post much, but I do read often here and have sold a few things here, so I don't know where I fit...but no one's complained yet so I must be ok. ;)

I'd like to know why this was brought up to begin with? As long as the person puts up his cigars at a good price and is willing to send first, what the hell is the problem? I can think of a few joined in 01/02 members who may have posted alot when they joined but who now only stop in once in a while to sell HTF cigars at good prices... and you don't see anyone giving them a load of crap about it.

I'm starting to think we are starting to invent problems where there are none, and its a trend that has me worried.

*edit* to fix a grammar mistake.

I know enough about group dynamics to know, that when people bitch about nuts and bolts crap, there's something deeper to be concerned about. So, what gives. There's been a lot of it going on lately

Doc.

Posting "hi" in every new member welcome thread doesn't count either... :sign:

Someon'e gotta hang the "He's OK" sign on ya before you're considered an "active" member. Now it's your job to figure out who's passing out the signs... :whistling:

I agree with you on this Michael. We tend to steamroll guys that have been here short periods of time and try to sell but don't say anything about a guy who has a sign up date of '04 and has 70 posts in that time. To me the only reason these sales go on is for someone to make a little money and using their member date as automatic validation. Granted this is just my opinion on the matter.
