A two hit wonder group from 1967 originally from NYC that got signed in Philly and just happened use a new producing team to put out "Expressway to Your Heart" a regional hit for The Soul Survivors on the Atlantic coast for months before reaching #4 nationally. It spent 15 weeks on the charts. The followup "Explosion in Your Soul" made it to #33 for a week. As impressive as that was it was only the first of 175 Gold and Platinum records produced, written or sang on by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff - considered the founders of the Philly sound.

The Soul Survivors didn't fair as well disband8nd in 1970 until the mid eighties. They did make an impression on Steely Dan who put the line "It's hard times befallen the Soul Survivors" into Hey Nineteen. About 1:22 in if you are curious.
