I was watching A View To A Kill and was reminded of this odd remix of Blue Monday that uses some lines from the movie. While certainly not my favorite if you were clubbing in Europe 39 years ago it was hard to avoid for a few months. The are two versions one at 7:15 and this one at 10 minutes

The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo started out as a theater troupe in 1972 before morphing into a band led by Danny Elfman in 1979. Certainly part of the New Wave in general they found waves nobody else was riding. Known for tight rhythms, quirky lyrics and a somewhat macabre stage show Oingo Boingo carved out s presence on the radio, albums and soundtrack. While any show was always a party it was their Halloween shows that rose to legendary status.

As soon as I knew I would be flying back to Camp Pendleton for some training I start trying to get tickets for the show. It took lots of calls but I finally got locked in and what a show it was. People in costume some mostly out of costume, dancing. some circles with the more frantic dancers. sing-a-longs. A good time was has by all and of course the closer - Dead Man's Party lasted a good 20 minutes.

Still crazy that the 80s New Wave band spawned (quite possibly?) one of the most prolific film scorers of the generation. Still crazy that he looks like a creepy little elf man, too...
