Prog Friday

People have been asking me what a Prog band is or to define Prog rock. I didn't really have a good answer so ater digging around I've come up with this , culled and mashed up from a few sources. "Prog is a complex, dynamic, and multi-dimensional music. It usually contains original use of multi-movement compositions involving theme, structure and scope beyond traditional rock."

Not terribly specific but that's what I got.

Atomic Rooster

Atomic Rooster was formed in mid 1969 mostly by former members of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - best known for the song Fire. One of those members, Carl Palmer, later helped found ELP. Much more popular in the UK then here they had to hits in 1971 but never broke the charts again before disbanding in 1975. The band reformed in 1980 going in a harder rock direction before breaking up again. A "new" Atomic Rooster was formed in 2016 with no original members but legal permission to use the name.


 
My Dad took me to my very first concert when I was 14. It was Lynyrd Skynyrd in Chattanooga, TN. One of the opening acts was a very young (18 or 19) Kenny Wayne Shepherd. I had been playing guitar for a few months at that point and had seen him in some of the guitar magazines, but I'd never heard his music before (this was pre-internet). When he played this song I thought "yep, that's what I want to do". I've performed it once in my life. There is no video, and I'm very thankful for that fact because it would probably be pretty embarrassing when compared to KWS.

I can’t explain it but I know it when I hear it!
 
Member since 1963 when I saw my first game in the old downtown War Memorial stadium. Part of the Highmark Stadium parking lot is on land my Great Grandfather owned at one time. Our time is now.
