Your theory why it might be Frank Zappa?Frank Zappa
TBH, just a guess, Zappa seemed to have a hand in giving other musicians their big break or bringing them together to play with each other... Seems like Zappa was very good at orchestrating behind the scenes...Your theory why it might be Frank Zappa?
Darn, I was looking forward to you tying Frank with Ry Cooder which would be new to me! But yes, Frank is part of the answer but there is more.TBH, just a guess, Zappa seemed to have a hand in giving other musicians their big break or bringing them together to play with each other... I believe Frank enlisted Ry Cooder to play slide guitar on the original recording of Willin' after Lowell George hurt himself and couldn't play... George later rerecorded the track where he plays the slide guitar in a slower tempo version...Darn, I was looking forward to you tying Frank with Ry Cooder which would be new to me! You got most of it. Frank fired his band the Mothers in late 1970 although Lowell was released 2 weeks earlier. There are 3 versions why: 1. Frank didn't like the song "Willin" having drug references. 2. Lowell played a 15 minute guitar solo listening through his headphones but never turned on his amp so it could be recorded. 3. Frank knew he was going to fire the band and thought Lowell was too gifted a writer and guitarist to be backup for somebody else #3 is what I believe because Frank has done that many times. So the only evidence Lowell was in the Mothers is "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" Because of the firing Lowell was able to get he Mother's bass player Roy Estrada who gor the first time saw Lowell without shoes and socks on and said "Those are some Little feet" or something close, Roy has to;d the story a few different ways.I believe Frank enlisted Ry Cooder to play slide guitar on the original recording of Willin' after Lowell George hurt himself and couldn't play...
