What SMOKING music are you listening to? (2026)

I have a number of trivia items on Made In Japan and here is one of them
Smoke On The Water is the only song ever to be in the top 10 as a studio single (from Machine Head) and as a live version (From Made In Japan) in the same week.

Another DP MIJ trivia.
In the agreement with the band the Japanese arm of the record company agreed to ONLY release it in Japan. which happened on Dec 2nd '72. The demand in the US grew as import copies trickled in The band's management went to Warner and asked them to allow distribution which they refused wanting another studio album instead. Negotiations continued and in early February of '73 Purple records (the band's record company) used a loophole in the contract* with Warner's to import 25,000 copies into the states which sold out in a week which was unheard of for an import album costing 50% more then the US version would, Warner relented and at the end of February set a release date of 30 March so they could make the US masters, stampers and build up and distribute stock for the release.

* Since Warner's refused to distribute Purple Records was not constrained by their distribution contract provided the albums were not made in the US.

I knew I knew something about this but it took a while to put it together. There are 2 versions of this. The one posted has 7 songs from the Hippodrom and then an another 12 songs of Highway to Hell done live all over Europe.
The 2nd version Called Live In The UK 77-78 has the same 7 songs from the Hippodrom and 7 each from Glasgow and Essex. Both are DVD with the first one made for the Japanese market and the 2nd for UK/EU.
