What SMOKING music are you listening to? (2026)

Something different for this TFT because this person didn't actually play any instrument or sing any songs but he was the most successful record executive ever. He has hundreds of top ten songs and the artists to go with them. Clive Davis died at age 94. From early Aretha to Santana to Whitney to Bruce to Kenye and far more Clive could pick them like nobody else.

Please take the time to look him up and pick two of your own favorites.

Judas Priest, 'Unleashed in the East' (1979)

The Turkish coffee of live albums, 4oz of coffee and 6 teaspoons of sweetener. Long thought to be heavily overdubbed this album was called Unleashed in the Studio by many critics but nothing was ever proven.

Recorded on 2/10 and 2/15/79 at two different venues in Tokyo a total of 17 different songs were played with 15 of them being recorded. Technical problems caused 2 not usable. Released in September of 1979 it became Priest's biggest album to date and one of the 5 gold records they achieved.

Originally released as a 9 song album it came with a 4 song bonus 7" EP in Japan and a 12 song cassette in the UK or a 9 song album with a 3 song 7"Ep. Here in the States we just got the 9 song album until 1986 when the CD came out with 13 songs. To get the last two songs you had to track down a 12" single and a different 7" single. There has never been a release with all 15 songs.

Going back to those claims of studio overdubs...it took 41 years but in 2020 it was reveled that while all the music was live all the vocals were redone in the studio.
