Live Friday

Peter Gabriel, 'Plays Live' (1983)

Peter's 5th solo and first live album. Originally released as a 16 track double album in 1983 the 1985 CD buyers got hosed as the first CD version came out with only 12 tracks and some of those were edited too! That version was called "Highlights" - avoid it. The re-release in 1987 as a double CD corrected that. As with many "live" albums this one isn't 100% live either with some studio work done on some of the songs. The album was recorded at 3 venues in Illinois and one in Kansas.

Oddly enough the Highlights version was remastered and released in 2002 while it wasn't until 2021 that the full double album was released in a remastered version. That version had been sitting for 19 years somewhere as it was done the same time as the Highlights one was remastered. 2 different singles were released in both 7 and 12" versions. In the US it was Soilsbury Hill backed with I Go Swimming. In the UK you got a speed up and edited version of "I Don't Remember" backed with "Kiss Of Life" from the same tour as the album but never released on any version of the album. There is a 2 DVD video set of all the songs from the double album.

Overall a great overview of his first four album with the masterpiece "So" waiting in the wings.

For those who haven't heard of it let alone actually heard it
