What to do w/ old computer equipment?

How do you go about erasing all of your personal info off of those computers that you donate or sell? Just like shredding all of your stuff that goes in the trash, should one be sure to do the same to your info on the hard drive of a trashed computer?

Depending on how paranoid you are a reformat will keep most people from reading anything. However, it is easy and cheap to DL a disc utility to "scrub" your drive of everything.

Huh, don't think I've heard about that one. :sign:

I rebuild the older systems I get my hands on and work with our youth minister to hand them out to families from our church.

There are programs out there that will shred the info on a drive. I use one (I think it's called erasure) that overwrites the drive something like 32 times.

I say if Rod wants our used/old computer equipment then we should give it to him.
