It's been a long, long week and I'm beat. But there's still more yet to do.

I don't remember if I mentioned it or not but The Wife® and I spent the better part of our July 4th holiday shopping at Lowe's. Not only did they have a lot of stuff we wanted on sale...they were offering a 10% military discount, too. So, we made off with garage cabinets, a storage shed, and construction materials to build a floor for it. Well it all arrived last week and I started to work on the floor last Saturday by digging 9 holes for the concrete pier blocks.

As luck would have it, my back yard here at the foot of Mt. Eklutna is apparently where rocks come to spawn and die. The place is lousy with 'em. Digging holes in my yard means swinging a pick-adz before I can get a shovel into it. Seriously, I pulled up rocks bigger than my head...and y'all should know just how big that is. But I digress.

After digging those nine holes, heaving rocks bigger than my head, and toting ten 60-lb bags of gravel, concrete pier blocks, and other materials from the driveway to the back yard, I was one sore old fart. But the rest of the job went far easier if not so much quicker. Here's where the project stands now...

...all that's left now is to turn some of that leftover wood into a sturdy ramp, and construction of the shed itself.

For you tool heads out there, this project brought two new power tools to my collection. This job was asking just a bit too much of my little Makita cordless drill, so I picked up a Hitachi ½-inch lithium-ion hammer drill,...and it rocks. The other new toy is actually for future projects...a DeWALT biscuit joiner. Yep, I've been a good boy. Tired but good. :-D

When I worked for a Germany construction company, we had a project in a place where the soil was clay embedded with chalk-stone. I feel your pain!

Are you going to place a cobble stone path up to the new shed? Or crushed rock? I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the finished project!

Hey, great project! Looks hilly too! Rocks, slope, ice issues in the winter...holy crap that's a lot to deal with. Where I live it's flat and sandy!

I have those same sawhorses...here's a tip: they have a load limit of about 200 lbs....I'm not gonna tell you how I know that, but here's a clue...I weigh about 210!

Back in the day of real cameras and film developing (just a couple of years ago for us), I was building a stand alone building in the backyard and at my wife's suggestion, I was taking pictures of the project in the various phases of construction. One day when I was home alone, I took a few pictures of me working on the shop in just my work boots and tool belt (long-handled framing hammer strategically placed!)...I didn't say anything and my wife dropped the film off for developing. A couple of days later she picked the pics up and sat in the car leafing through them...she got a good laugh out of them.

We put the pics in the family album and now whenever my daughter comes over with her friends, I always ask if the girls want to look at our family photos...my daughter looks at them and says "Say no!". ha, ha, ha

Keeps you off the streets troublemaker. Now that you are building your smoking room what does The Wife® get?

Finally! The shed project is pretty much done. Saturday was beeeeeeautiful...sunny and a perfect 70 degrees (or so). After making a propane run, I tackled the task of assembling the shed. The instructions called this a two-person job but I was by myself. All it took was some ingenuity, hard work...and a few extra hours.

Sunday was not so beautiful. Gloomy, rainy, and a bit on the cool side...especially when you get wet. I even had to set up the rain canopy to keep the rain and the power tools from getting together and causing mischief.

The finished product:

Hilarious. If only.

My neighbor and I used that same hammer drill recently when putting in his gazebo. He insisted on putting this thing (purchased at Sam's Club) into his yard with concrete block. I thought he was nuts, but it was fun using that drill; and yeah, it's an ass-kicker.

BTW, your shed looks great. I wondered 'why the ramp', but it's obvious now.

I think I have those too. They're the fold up ones right? Only mine are white on top. I definitely topped out the load limit on one of mine as well, literal pain in the ass.
