Yeah I'm bored!

I would guess that 80% of the mail I receive (by volume) is junk mail and goes straight to the trash and the senders of this junk mail get way better rates than we do to send letters or cigars :(

What would happen if everyone in the US would refuse this junk mail (return to sender, refused, etc.) and make the post office handle it twice. Would they raise our postage rates even more to cover the extra man hours required or would they stop discounting the rates for junk mail?

Just a comment about the USPS. Why do we have to have mail delivery on Saturday? I could save them 1/6 of their budget and just do deliveries Monday through Friday.

Your local newspaper is just as big an offender when taken as an entire industry. You should weigh up the inserts that come every day to your house.

Doc.

You could always take those postage paid envelopes, stuff them with the junk mail and send them back.

Very true, however, I have the option of not receiving the newspaper, and I don't. I get all the news I want from here and ESPN ;)

About 2 years ago some friends of my wife told us the trick that helped them get rid of junk-mail. When we eagerly asked what the secret trick was we were told just take the return envelope from the junk mail and return it back to them, if there is no return envelope on a particular piece of junk mail just stuff that company's junk mail in conjunction with the other company's junk mail as a courtesy. Needless to say we still get junk mail, not as much as we use to and most of the junk mail comes from new different company's not suspecting that will get junked back.

At home we call this: SPAM WAR!!! Is really fun and it is our family new passtime, we deicate 15-20mins everyday between getting home from work and before the kids homework. Is a whole family activity , even my kids help. Believe it or not there are lots of people accross America that have been doing this for years.

What a great idea!

Well, I also forgot to mention that my USPS courier (Pete) used to get a serious case of the ass when he came to deliver the mail because there would be a a whole bunch of self addressed envelopes held by a rubber band. He kept telling me for the 1st six months that it was BS that he delivered all that crap yesterday and that he had to take it right back today. He used to leave my house mumbling that he was gonna throw that crap in the garbage and I use to follow him reminding him that it was a Federal Offense to tamper or destroy US Mail  He confessed to me about 9 months or so ago that he start it doing it also.

Now to have even more fun we include things inside the envelope like: leaves, beer caps, beer labels, kids buggers, toilet paper, sanitary towels, cigarette butts, ice cream sticks, you name it and we have probably put it inside. The trick is to find something that it won't puncture the envelope, leak or stain through the envelope, bulky or overall suspicious.
