Whats the greatest movie made?

Debbie Does Dallas :D
It's 25 years old now since it was released in '79. I always liked Behind The Green Door ('72) from that era too.

I've actually never seen it, but after seeing it called the greatest movie ever here I just might have to. You know, for research purposes. :sneaky:

(DDD, not Fargo)

I haven’t seen it either.
I guess I'll have to do "research" also :D

2001 A Space Odyssey, the greatest leap in FX ever in movies, even bigger then King Kong in it's day. Shots of space still don't look as good.

Das Boot, easily the best use of surround sound, the standard everybody should try to attain to.

Apocalypse Now, one of the few that makes you watch it. Gripping at all levels.

Full Metal Jacket, My bootcamp in 45 minutes ...This is my rifle, there are many others like it but this one is mine. Good night Chesty wherever you are.

The Bridge on the River Kwai, A classic tale of men overcomming all obsticles to do the right thing.

Those are just 5. I can do 15 more that are equally deserving to be a top movie depending on what mood I'm in.
I love the first half of FMJ. Has there ever, ever been a better first half of a movie ever filmed? I think not.

God has a hard on for Marines, because we kill everything we see. He plays His games, we play ours. To show our appreciation for so much power, we keep heaven packed with fresh souls. God was here before the marine corps, so you can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the corps.

Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy ****ing walrus-looking piece of ****. Get the **** off of my obstacle. Get the **** down off of my obstacle. Now. Move it. I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world. I will motivate you, Private Pyle, if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo.

A rifle is only a tool. It's a hard heart that kills. If your killer instincts are not clean and strong you will hesitate at the moment of truth. You will not kill. You will become dead Marines. And then you will be in a world of ****. Because Marines are not allowed to die without permission. Do you maggots understand?

You will give your rifle a girl's name because this is the only pussy you people are going to get. Your days of finger-banging ol' Mary J. Rottencrotch through her pretty pink panties are over

Pyle, you had best un**** yourself and start ****ting me Tiffany cufflinks or I will definitely **** you up.

Jesus, once I start quoting R. Lee Ermey, I'll never stop. :sign:

I've named a few already, but I keep thinking of more.

I like all kinds of movies, action and thrillers being tops, but any well made movie will do.

Parenthood

The Witches of Eastwick

Terms of Endearment

No Way Out (Kevin Costner)

Spy Games

The Manchurian Candidate

Crimson Tide

Glory

The Thomas Crown Affair (Original and the Pierce Brosnon remake)

and more...........

For those that don't know the story, R. Lee was brought on to teach the actor that was going to play the D.I. how to do it. He made such an impression that they gave the part to him. What is unusual is that R. Lee was only a medically retired Staff Sergeant (E-6), fairly low rank to be a consultant on movie set. (he was later given an honorary promotion to Gunnery Sergeant by the Corps)

I remember first seeing R. Lee many, many years ago (1978/79??) in "The Boys in Company C" as a DI there too. From the "for what it's worth" category, he was also cast as a helicopter pilot in one of the other all-time great movies, Apocolypse Now (Eagle Thrust Seven pilot). I still think "Boys in Company C" was his first flick though. A damn fine performance there too.

When he was involved with FMJ, as AVB aptly pointed out, he was originally hired as a consultant on how to drill USMC style. He performed a demonstration on videotape in which he yelled obscene insults and abuse for fifteen minutes without stopping, repeating himself, or even flinching - despite being continuously pelted with tennis balls and oranges. Kubrick was so impressed that he immediately cast Ermey as Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann.

Still wondering....how does he fold up the stolen painting in his briefcase? ???

Cheers,

I guess the wood frame would have been hinged..................

I'm going to have to watch that again and again to figure that one out.

I'm suprised it took someone that long to mention that classic. Now, how about a favorite scene. Personally I liked the car wash scene, but the candlestick scene was OK too.
I've actually never seen it. It was the only movie name I could think of (of that genre).

After seeing the box cover, I might have to find it - anyone know of any sources where I could get this :D :D

Another one of his early movies was Firebase Gloria. Having to put his buddy out of his misery with that .357 could not have been too delightful.

Did that kind of buddy stuff really happen, or is that Hollywood?

Everytime I see that film, I think the same thing... Never heard of a hinged frame.

And, HOW the heck did he steal the 2nd painting (the one that Rene Ruso liked and that she returned at the end).

We assume it was in the gallery when the museum closed the gates at 3 pm when Crowne walked in to "return" the first painting. He threw in the smoke bombs, the wall doors close, and voila, the doors open and the 2nd painting is gone.

Any clues?
