Is Castro sick, maybe dying ???

I have seen a number of articles related to "when Castro dies"
For example -
1.Europe is going to suffer with Cuban cigar supplies
when the US opens up.
2.The US is planned and ready to go into Cuba to assist the
Cuban people with their transition.
3.The thread started by centurycigar about maduro wrappers. Cuban cigars
with maduro wrappers is (IMO) definitely a marketing strategy aimed at the US
market.

and more...

Can you provide links to those articles because the bits and pieces you posted make no sense at all.

When Fidel Castro dies, the "embargo" will not be lifted. More likely than not an equally unfriendly regime will replace him. Again, if you can provide links to your "number of articles" it would be extremely helpful.

I was under the impression that Castro's much younger and just as pigheaded brother is the likely successor to Fidel Castro's position

I disagree. Infinity's statements make a great deal of sense, but are simply unsupported. Your statement is also correct. Fidel will not die without a "will".

mmmm - I'm not making this up CC  but

I can't find where I read that Europe will get less cubans when US opens up right now but here's an article on USA preparing.

I also mentioned the other thread about cuban maduro and hence "my number of articles"

Your opinion about an "equally unfriendly regime" is logical with his brother being mentioned to step in. However, perhaps something that is bigger than us is going down :whistling:

Many of my "assignments" in the seventies related directly or indirectly to Castro's tinkering. It wouldn't surprise me a bit that we have something in mind for when its time for power to transition.

What does that mean, Bruce - "Infinity's statements make a great deal of sense, but are unsupported...."?

What also "makes sense" is that mashed potatoes cause psychotic behavior. You can prove that statistically, but it holds no merit beyond statistics. So even though it sounds plausible and proveable, it has no merit. And I would argue, therefore, that it really doesn't make sense.

There are a whole crapload of possible scenario's - but one thing is certain. The Cuban government in it's present or near future form is not going to go away. As a matter of fact, they're doing some of the same things they were famous for in the early 60's (working to spread socialism to Latin America). And Chavez is feeding it as well...

As long as that is true, there will be an embargo.

I will correct my statement to "makes a great deal of sense to me", or in other words, I find logic in them. Unsupported means no links or anything to support the statements. I accept that they don't make sense to Bill, or perhaps to you. As for the rest, I agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see the embargo continue through my lifetime.

Stop eating those mashed potatoes.

Okay, you cited an article but it does not support your statement which was:
2.The US is planned and ready to go into Cuba to assist the
Cuban people with their transition.

The article said nothing of the sort.

Europe has nothing to worry about in the near future since the United States won't "open up" anytime soon.

I don't think I have ever had any Cuban mashed potatos!!!!!
As long as they(the Cubans, or anyone else for that matter)don't throw away the potato water away, there shouldn't be any problems...the potato water is an excellent resource for making any gravy...

C&R

potato water is the secret to making excellent gravy!

With all the smoking bans in the US, Cuba may be able to pickup where they left off. They might be the only place that you can go in the world to smoke a cigar in public.

No its not cuz its already been banned. You cant smoke in public places in Cuba.

:D

excerpt:

We pledge to extend a hand of friendship and support as they build a democratic government, a strong economy and a brighter tomorrow for their families and their country.
---U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez
Remarks to the CATO Institute
or
"The Bush administration has developed a 400-page plan for how to confront the challenges of post-Castro Cuba. In August, it appointed a Cuba "transition coordinator" at the State Department to carry out the plan." ...The plan is consistent with requirements of the 1996 Helms-Burton Act, which bars US assistance to any Cuban government that includes Fidel or Raul Castro. But it carries the requirement one step further by calling for direct action "hastening Cuba's transition" toward democracy.
[/font]Basically the US has a plan to aid cuba in a transiton to democracy...I'm sure if they want it.
I'm also sure OTHER counries have similar intent.

In my limited life experience I can only say this, no one knows what will happen. No one knows what’s happening right now in Cuba for sure because it is a closed society (except if you’re Hugo Chavez) and no one can say what privatization will do to the Cuban economy.

All I can say is bet on the embargo lasting beyond Castro’s death.

Gary, your linky is not a linky :) But I'm on the same page!

July 9,2006 I started this thread. I was simply asking what, if anything,
is going down.

Now we find Castro handing over power for several weeks - mmmmm!

I stick with a previous statement - something big IMHO is going down :whistling: ;)
