About 10 years ago I asked if anybody wanted to help me out getting one of these. Nobody jumped up and volunteered so I had to go it alone. I know I couldn't ever afford my first choice above but after a decade I have almost finished my second choice.
I took my then almost 18 year old M1A and turned it into this:

Sage EBR chassis, Leupold 3.5x9 TMR scope, Sadlak Scope mount, Sadlak NM Spring guide, NM birdcage, Reworked trigger, Douglas 22" NM barrel, Harris bipod and full FDE cerakoat. Took it out for zero last weekend and I wouldn't stand in front of me unless you were way the fuck out there. Now I haven't shot it at 500+ yards, but based on what she is is doing so far I'm pretty confident of 800 yard groups and 1000 yard target hits if I can read the weather well enough. While a 6.5 Creedmoor is better suited to the 800-1200 yard ranges it wasn't around to speak of when I started and would have been way more expensive during the time I was building.

Just a few more odds and ends and it will be totally finished, probably this month. Edit: Better pic

Nom, nom, nom.

She's a beaut!

You rolling your own ammo, yet?
I've had the best luck with Berger's.

I've never gotten into reloading but with match ammo for this beast at about a buck each I might have to seriously look into it.

I've reloaded for so long, I struggle with the thought of off the shelf ammo. Lol

That's a beauty Ray! I've always been fond of the .308 Winchester round and what it can do. What are you shooting out of it currently? Anything special?

Standard mil ball and some IMI Razorcore match ammo so far.

Got a little range time in this weekend - just the 100 & 200 yard ones since the sign up sheet for the 300 yard line was way too long. This is with 1980's mil surplus @ 200. Those are 1" squares.

Without with the flyer it is about 3/4 MOA which is pretty much the limit of the ammo. Not a tack driver like some of the match folks use but this was designed to hit a man sized target not a 3" bull at 800-1200 yards and I think I'm on my way toward that.

Impressive! Bet your groups would be even tighter with match ammo...

Maybe but I really don't think it would be much at 200 yards. A 22 year old standard M1A isn't really a match grade barrel so 3/4-1 MOA is all you can really expect out of it. Now once I get out to 500 yards or more match ammo will have a more pronounced effect just due to better ballistics. I am planning to shoot some 168 grain match along with some surplus when ever I can get to my 300 yard course just to see. You may be right.

You don't scrub all the fouling out after every session do you?
Yes, I do. I clean it after every time I go to the range. The next time I shoot 3 fouling rounds before shooting for "score". Of course, if you mean after every set inside a range day then I don't do that.

I've got over 1000 rounds down the tube of my precision rifle and accuracy still hasn't fallen off.

I do, however, clean the action of grit and grime, I just don't touch the barrel with anything except Berger 185gr Juggernaut bullets. :D

ETA: missed a zero on my bullet count.

This isn't a "precision" rifle in the regular sense and it is only the advances in the chassis and bullets that allow it to go 1000 yards. A real precision long range rifle is designed to go 1000 yards from the start...IMO. I used to usually shoot 60-80 rounds every time I hit the range and I plan on doing that with this rifle too so I clean it. When do you plan to clean yours & what are you shooting?

I mistyped the round count, it is over 1000.

I'll clean it when I can no longer hold the guaranteed 3/8 moa.

It's a bluprinted Rem700 308 in an AICS chassis with an 18" Bartlein tightbore barrel.
