Where is the cigar smoker headed?

More and more these days it seems like smoking is branded as the root of all evil in society. I know alot of the recent anti-smoking campaigns target cigarette smokers but smoking of ANY kind is affected when laws get passed. I guess it's been on my mind alot recently because of the tough new anti-smoking laws that are being passed in Ontario as of next Wednesday.

My questions are: where do you see the cigar smoker of the future? Will we be branded as weak individuals with no self control who voluntarily put their own health at risk because they can't kick a habit? Will society look down upon us even more so then they currently do? Will even tougher laws be imposed that attempt to make any smoking completely prohibited?

Sounds far fetched I know, but the way things are going it feels like more personal rights are being taken away.

Near me, NJ just enacted a smoking ban in restaurants/bars, NJ folks, if I am wrong on that, please correct me.

I think you will see this anti-smoking movement continue. Pennsylvania will be watching NJ closely and see how it fares and I don't think it will be too long before we are right behind them. :angry:

Hell, I even have a neighborhood nazi that I deal with now who wants me to not smoke on my own deck! Sometimes I think they will even outlaw that!

What will happen is that you will see more and more "private" bars where you have a safe haven to smoke.

yes, you are right... I basically only smoke at home now. I never thought I would smoke cigars in my home but unfortunately there is not too many places to smoke anymore. I do enjoy the peace and quiet of smoking alone though.

There are only three places in which I can smoke outside of my house, and they are at a local brew pub, Outback or the Glendale Hilton (roof-top bar). I live in a city with TONS of restaurants, however none of them allow CIGAR smoking on the patio. Actually, very few restaurants even have patios. Pretty lame for Southern California, we are known for having "great weather", yet very few patios. Anyhow, the restaurants with patio's allow cigarette smokers but not cigar smokers. Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it??? There some restaurants which do allow cigar smokers, but they are few and far between.

Went to a small herf at the Glendale Hilton last night, and towards the end some cigarette smokers came out and lit up at a near by table. I actually got nasious from their smoke. There are so many chemicals and other toxins in cigarettes, yet cigarette smokers have more freedom than us pure-tobacco cigar smoking guys.

Interesting about the patios. Right now I know of a patio where cigar smoking is allowed, since I was there one evening and a guy was smoking a cigar with no issue from anyone. I kicked myself for not having any of my own on me since I didn't know. I'm wondering if that will still be allowed after next Wednesday here in Ontario. As far as I know, if it's a real uncovered patio, smoking SHOULD be allowed, but you never know how restaurants will implement the new law. This really sucks.

It's interesting to see that people considered liberal are the ones leading the charge on making o many things illegal these days. Liberals by definition should be more understanding about the freedom of choice in any situation. I think the smoking laws are just going to get worse and worse but I don't think tobacco is ever going to be made illegal I think places to smoke will just be limited and taxes increased. It's like gas there really is no oil shortage but they've found out we will pay the high prices we charge because we have to. Tobacco is the same thing, for the cigarette smoker that is addicted they could charge huge amounts of money and the person is not going to quit hence the government and tobacco industry makes more money.

Lucky for me I live in Iowa and we are usually the last group to jump on the hip new things. Hopefully this works with tabacco laws as well.
