Who here shoots 9 ball?

Used to play in a league years ago - have 2 first place trophies in 8 and 2 in 9 (captained my 9-ball team to back to back first place finishes). Haven't played any pool since I put a new tip on my Helmstetter not too long ago (which I'd like to get re-wrapped and refinished one of these days, though the shaft is fairly new so it's more cosmetic than anything else ;) )

I'm a fan of 9-ball, and I can't figure out why it isn't played more. It's an excellent equalizer game, so you'd think that people of highly different abilities would prefer it when playing one another.

I used to be a decent player, I know most all the good road players personally.8 and 9 ball are the games I made the most money at but if you are in texas it is all one pocket( I love 1 pocket).I had to slow down when I had my bypass surgery but I still love the games.I like snooker too and FWIW it is a completely different table no similarities to a regulat pool table at all.I never played 3 cushion it is mostly a north east game.I would probably love it too.I have won 100's of small 8 ball tournaments(64 players or less) never played good enough to play with the big boys(mans gotta know his limitations, and I do), I have ran 7 racks of 9 ball several times, it is my personal best, my high run in straight pool is 63 and I can run the numbered balls off the spots in snooker fairly regularly. My proudest accomplishment is winning the APA league top gun for my whole region(over 40 teams).

Hey Rob..... I got the same cue...... thought I was the only one who owned one  .... does yours have a quick release joint?

Damn...... wish there was a place we could meet to play a little and still have a smoke.... I miss those days.

i see guys playing 1 pocket here (dallas) all the time but never could figure it out. what are the rules?

i used to run into amarillo slim all the time playing and could sit and watch him for hours.

Snooker is a 10 ft x 5 ft table I believe. Nine ball here in Chicago is the main game. I have a McDermott Sedona and love it. Had an Meucci Cue that was awesome for Massa shots. Sold it to buy the Dermott though.

You have to pocket 8 in your corner pocket before your opponent pockets 8 in his.All fouls bring a ball back up.It is a much more strategic game than any other regular pool game, it is in line with snooker as far as stratewgy goes.

Snooker is played on a 12 by 6 table. I used to play everyday from 1990 -1996. The game I played was 9 ball. I stopped playing everyday when I turned my pool hall over to my manger and stopped working.

I now play maybe once or twice a year. I still have my high line Schon cue with three custom shafts and my McDermott break/jump cue.

I play one-pocket, on a real one-pocket table. It is a game that is primarily defense first. Very strategic. It is crucial to leave your opponent without any shot (leaving him on the wrong side of the table, behind, pinned, etc.).

That is a very nice Cue, could never really find it to purchase a cue like that. Cheapest is around 600 or 700. I paid that for my McDermott but that is cause it was a higher end McDermott. Maybe once my table is in the house i'll buy a cue like that. But for now I'll stick with my 8 yr. old Dermott.

Used to have a couple of older Schon's. Also had a Joss at one time. Now the only one I own is a Pechaur. I haven't played in forever. I was never any good anyway. LOL! My uncle owned a pool room and all the big names came through, as well as the road players. After I moved away I ran a different pool room for a while and won quite a bit of money spotting road players that no one knew. LOL!
