First, I already know it is, but figured Id see what theire response is.

I responded to an ad for a jetski in boston's craiglist. I would post the link but it has disappearred (clue 1 this is a scam).

The price was very low as the jetski (link below) listed new in 2006 for almost 12K.

I sent an email several days ago, and today got this in my email:

Dear Client,

Sorry for the delayed response, but I'm in Glasgow, Scotland right now and I have been very busy for the last couple of days. Anyway, thank you for your interest in buying my SeaDoo. The jetski is located in US right now and has US papers. Why is the price so low? I am going through a divorce, and I had to move out of USA. So all that I want to do now is sell the jetski at this price, because I need to sell it fast. The title is clean and you will have absolutely no problems to register the jetski in the States.

I will tell you a few words about my jetski... Hours: 20
Trailer, cover and 2 vest included.
It is in immaculate condition, rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident. The motor runs very well. This jetski needs nothing! I want this transaction to go smoothly enough as I am caught in the middle of some very important events and have little time at my disposal. I already have tones of emails so I hope you understand that I need to sort them out. The jetski is like new, in perfect conditions, garage kept, fresh water only, no special marks, no need for additional repairs what so ever. Just ready to be yours, but only if you shall understand and you won't make me loose time as it has already happened to me.

The price is $2,850 USD! THIS IS MY LAST PRICE! I will not negotiate the price!
Also, I take in consideration only those buyers who are really interested in buying the jetski, to be sure that I'm not waisting my time with endless discussions. This way, I'll be assured of the serious intentions.
So if you are interested please email me!

So I responded that I was still very interested and wanted to pick up immediately.

Who thinks the next email I get is asking for my bank account info??????

I'll how long I can torture them.......

I also posted as a warning for those who also use CL.

Fuggen moron....

Don't give him your bank info! Send him cash! That way he can't rip you off!

wait a minute... um .... hmmm?

 I meant to say. Yeah it sounds like a scam to me.

if it seems too good to be true, then it probably is. i wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. bet it is a hot jetski, you should check the registration numbers (if available) to verify the owner.

Wow...so are you buying a Seadoo from THIS Maria Alonso?

Does the email addy seem to match up with the photobucket account holder? Might just be someones unfortunate luck that a scammer is using thier PB album to help out the scam.

The response was written by more than one person, one a better English user than the other. I'd guess that the original was pretty good, but has been edited by someone not so good.

This scam has been running on Ebay for quite some time, now.

Jetski scam

I guess, like all the other scams ie. lottery, millions to get out of the country, etc., if you're persistant enough, and send out enough emails, you'll eventually hook someone.

Never fails to amaze me, how some people, in the name of a great deal, send their hard-earned cash to these scammers.

The depths these scammers will sink to floors me. I work in the banking industry, and it is truly disgusting to see what they do. The sad thing is that the people that take the bait are usually the elderly and those on fixed incomes. These scammers are incredible persuasive once they get a bite. It is almost impossible to talk their victims out of sending them the money. About the only way we have is getting a family member's name from the victim and contacting them in hopes they can step in and intervene for the victim.

What's worse is that the scammers are usually based out of the country and impossible to prosecute. It really sickens me to talk to an elderly widow who has just been scammed out of her life savings, but really is convinced that she won the lottery and had to pay the taxes up front to get her winnings.

Jack - while I knew this was a scam from the moment I got the response, I was unaware this was so popular of a scam.

Here is the follow up response I recieved:

Hello there,

Look how we will do this:
Before leaving I had prearranged shipping with WorldPay so my presence in US isn't necessary.
The jetski is in a WorldPay warehouse in US, ready for delivery. I will offer a 5 day period to inspect the jetski from the moment you receive it from the shipping company.

So if you want to make this deal I will need the following details from you:
full name and address
shipping address
phone #
After I will have all this details I will forward them to WorldPay and I will proceed the order. The jetski will arrive to you with a lawyer from WorldPay and he will help you with all the documents.
WorldPay will contact you with all the details that you need to complete this deal and also to see that I am covered by them and if I am legit seller. Waiting your email with the requested details.

Kind Regards,
Maria Alonso

So I get five days to review and a lawyer will personally deliver the jet ski to me.

Hmmmmm whose address should I send to them? Local Police station? FBI office in Boston?

Notice they dont ask for your account number or anything yet. They wouldnt want to send off any alarms... :whistling:

I wonder if Worldpay would like to know if they are being implicated in scam like this............Are they even a legit company????
