Who's hitting the links so far this summer?

Who else out there has been fortunate enough to get in a few rounds of golf so far this season? Since my days on the High School team, I've been able to play maybe 4 or 5 rounds a year at best. I guess I've just never made it a priority, however this year I'm changing that, and I'm going to try to get out at least once a week this summer. And so far (begin the bragging) I've gotten almost a dozen rounds in this year, and I'm really happy to see a definite improvement in my game! New clubs probably helped too, but I think playing more often has done wonders for my game. I've always considered myself a bogey golfer, perhaps with a handicap around 18+, but so far my last 6 rounds have all been in the low to mid 80's!

But of course I think my golfing is really just an excuse to smoke cigars. And finally a great way to smoke some of those larger vitolas that I never otherwise have time for.

I haven't touched my clubs in probably a year and a half. I've missed it terribly but I just do not have time to play regularly and if I don't play pretty regular, I don't play well and then I get frustrated.

I have spent a lot of time on the Harley though. That's my other therapist.

:D

I went from playing 4-5 times a week too, I haven't played in 7-8 years. I do plan to get at least 1 round in this year...if I finish up around the yard, grout the tile I installed 2 months ago, wash and wax both SUV's, install sod in the front yard, plant some more shrubs, install new outdoor light fixtures......ah, I may get in 1 round, maybe.

I play almost eveyr Sat and Sunday - early AM!

It's great having a Lusi at 7am!.

Go every Monday and Friday Mornings.

We usually T off at 6:30 Am and are done by around 10:am. Just in time for a good cigar.

Well I've been out twice this year. I'm planning to play in Vegas and in Salt Lake City area this coming week. I took up golf because I smoked cigars, the official reason to smoke anywhere you please!

I too Andy have played more this year than I have in the past. And I have to agree whole heartedly, new clubs have done some good, but more playing time I think is what I attribute to my better scores. And by the way, I LOVE the new driver! :whistling:

I don't golf so have never "hit the links", but we do live near a golf course which I drive by everyday on the way home from work. In the 12 years (in this house) that I've been going by I've had 1 near miss and 1 direct hit (line drive from the tee right to the cab of my truck, just above the windshield....woman golfer...her shot went off to the right...slice?).

I do have a question, do they charge less (or at all) for the guys that play in the afternoon when the sprinklers are on? I've always wondered about that....

Well I should go play sometime in August for the first time. Father-in-Law is going to take me to the driving range to give me a few lessons. At least I know what club is for what.

They have to have those sprinklers on because it's about a million degrees out in FL right now, and if they didn't the golfers would most likely burst into flames!

I try to get out every Saturday with my dad. Last Sat I shot an 83 and that was with a lost ball and a few three putts. My ball striking has been good but I never practice the putting and short game enough to really score consistently. I used to have a cigar on the course with my dad when we played but since his heart surgery I stopped because he quit smoking. I usually wait until I get home and pour myself some drinks and have a cigar in the backyard.

I played with my father in law twice a week (I was a 12 handicap) until I had my back surgery. Now, I can't really swing a club the way that I used to. I'm trying to learn a new swing that will take the pressure off of my lower back. It's so tough. It's mostly arms and shoulders. I have zero power compared to what I used to have, but if it can get me back on the course hitting the ball straight, I'll take the 2 club loss in distance.

I agree that with a good foundation, the more you play the better you score. However, if your like my brother in law (only foundation from the many gadgets and gizmos), the more you play the worse you get. He's always trying something new and it's always the polar opposite of what he was doing a month ago. With what he's spent on that crap he could have had 5 or 6 lessons with a decent pro and done wonders for his game.

I'm going out next week to give the new swing a first real try on an 18 hole course. Wish me luck, I think I'm going to need it!

I am not a golfer, but this impressed me. From The Milwaukee Journal:

Low and behold! 92-year-old cards 74

It was just one of dozens of honor scores printed in the Journal Sentinel last week: Grant Park, Dick Woerfel, 74.

But this was one extraordinary round of golf.

Woerfel, you see, is 92 years old. At that age, it's a bonus just to be ambulatory, much less be able to swing a golf club. Amazingly, Woerfel plays 18 holes three days a week - his group has a regular 7 a.m. tee time at Grant - and still competes occasionally in senior tournaments.

But 74? That's 18 strokes lower than his age, a phenomenal and perhaps unprecedented achievement. Sure, the Grant Park Golf Course is only 5,213 yards and par is 67. But a 74 at age 92?

Last year I played 72 rounds.

First round of the year costs me ~ $1250, and the rest of the year is free!!!!

Haven't golfed much this year but the game is coming around. Last night I golfed the League 9 and shot a 39, with a Triple Bogey on the 11th hole (league played on the back).

My daughter(9) is taking lessons so it gives me an excuse to get out. I have played 10 times this year...compared to 2-3 a year the last few. I too played on the high school team and played every day....5 handicap at one time....now a 12 and on it's way down.

I live walking distance to a course here on South Beach, and within very close driving distance to many, many other outstanding courses, such as Doral's, Biltmore's, etc. I golf a minimum of three days per week (weather permitting...which it usually does here) when I'm here in town, or when I'm not deep-sea fishing at my place in the Keys.

I have been playing more this year than ever. I am playing every other Monday night with group of guys, always selecting a couple fine cigars for the round. For me, it's tough to beat golfing with a fine smoke.

i plan on hitting the Gulf of Mexico alot this summer, starting next week, for 2 weeks. Scallop season opens, and the fish are hungry :D
