Has anyone had a chance to try it yet? It feels strangely like a cross between a Mac OS and Linux. Runs slightly slower than XP, but that is not too big of a concern. It is going to take a while to get used to, but my initial impression of it is good.

Gonna wait a few months after release before I buy so all the major bugs can be worked out of it.

From what I have read, it does seem like a pretty nice OS.

It's certainly better than XP (though that isn't saying much), and it is a sorely needed gutting of the internals in an attempt to create a more secure OS. If I ran Windows on my machines, I'd upgrade them to Vista. We're going to upgrade the Windows boxes in the office.

Being a Microsoft product I am not going to upgrade for at least a year. There will still be major things wrong with it but at least the first service pack should be out by then.

agreed...i hate when they come out with a new product, when XP isn't near complete.
I wonder when they will abandon support for XP and force Vista down our throats.

...agreed. I'm looking at a new home machine in about a year, so it may get Vista installed out of the gate....may not. Truth is I'm pretty happy with XP; I've got it beat into submission quite well and behind my router and with the software I have, I've had no worries nor virus / Trojan issues on any of the system in my house.

My employer is going to transition to Vista in Q2 next year, so I'll get some cockpit time then.

Why? I thought you were a MAC developer. Is Vista that good?

I agree, Microsoft has always released new software with to many bugs. They have always expected their customer base to ID the problems. I for one will wait until the first service pack is released before I put it on my system.

I don't know if this one is going to be as bad as XP was. It has been released for testing for almost a year. Something that was never done with XP.

But yeah, if you don't have a video card and at least 1gb of RAM...don't even bother.

Good question - my uncle who is in the "business" gave me a copy that I could put on all of my computers at home. However, I've been a little apprehensive in doing so. Everything is working fine right now with my home network and I'm a little concerned with taking a chance with installing the beta version. I'll probably wait a bit before taking the plunge, but it's interesting to hear from others concerning their experience with Vista.
