Winterizing Your Screened in Deck

Well I’m finished smoking in my garage during the winter. I could never get it warm enough with all the cars coming and going so I decided to winterize my screened in porch. Bought ten 8’x 26” semi-clear trek plastic pieces that are designed to be used underneath your deck to make it water proof. I vertically mounted them against the supports for the porch and started screwing them in place. Very little cutting was needed and the pieces lock into one another nicely.

The result:
The porch is now wind proof and stays dry. I was a little worried about ventilation but with the door slightly cracked and the ceiling fan set over on winter mode it works great. I bought a rotating space heater that took about an hour to heat the place up. When it did it kept the temp a nice 65 while it was 35 and raining outside. Nicest thing was it only cost me $200 and you can reuse these panels for years.

Now all I have to do is put down a rug to stop the cold air from coming from between the deck boards.

It's also supposed to be bright and sunny and in the 60's this weekend! Did I mention that I've got liquor and good smokes? :whistling:

Looks awesome man  I wish I had something like that. I'm going to have to settle for the garage. I have a nice space heater so I might put it out full blast for awhile before I go out. I have also thought about buying one of those fire pits and getting a couple of logs going and smoking by the fire in the driveway. Winter Sucks!

That's what I do in the winter... stock up on wood and start a fire in the pit! Bonus: the smoke from the pit makes the cigar smoke more bearable to my wife and kids!

Damn thats a nice set up. It's a great feeling to figure things like that out, especially when they are cheap to do. As far as the floor, might want to look into some of those interlocking rubbermats. Just a suggestion.

That looks great!! I am battling the same thing here in Indiana. My screened in porch is about 10 x 10. I would love to do this! Where did you pick up the plastic pieces? Lowe's? Well done!

Great idea. The closing on my house is tommorrow. I have a screened in porch. Going to have to put that project on the top of the honeydo list!!!!!! :whistling:

I can't believe a real man would ask his wife to do this for him, where is your pride man. ;)

 :p

Great looking set up, it really sucks being in an apt during the winter the only option is to brave it or smoke inside.

That looks great. I wish I had thought of that before I enclosed mine. Oh well, I'm almost done. I just painted the final coat on the walls, put up the ceiling fan, primed the trim, and have the new hardwood floor aclimating to the rooms humidity and temp.

After pricing leather furniture and flat screen TV's I think furnishing the room will cost more than building it. :0

Hmm, sounds like an idea. I'll have to check price on them out at Lowe's for a 10'x12' area.
