OK FOG's...I live in Arizona and I ordered a few cigars, not only because I want them, but also as part of an experiment on temperature.

The question: Would you (or have you) have your cigars shipped to an environment of 100 degrees or higher?

6 months of the year we are near or way over 100 (115 in mid summer). This week is pushing 100 and my UPS route doesn't arrive until 5-6pm...hence, the stogies are on a hot truck all day. Now I'm quite certain that the B&M's around here must do this but is there a beetle risk? I guess I could freeze them but I have heard so many mixed feelings on this.

Let the knowledge floweth...

Cigars get shipped to Iraq all the time and it's well over 100 most of the year there. I can vouch that they get smoked and still taste delicious. :)

That being said, the longer they sit in your humidor after receiving them, the better.

x2

I ordered many a cigar to be delivered in Iraq, and I was bombed by many a CP'er while in Iraq. All arrived in great condition and were smoked. I did let them sit a bit before lighting them up, but it had no adverse effects on the sticks.

...on the other hand, the only times I've received moldy smokes were in the dregs of summer.

A week long ride in a hot truck with very wet sticks isn't a good combination, IMHO....

I'll bet it very much depends on the RH that the sticks were stored in before shipment. Some guys seem to store their sticks very "wet" for some reason...

Good Luck - B.B.S.

Couldn't agree more.

While I agree that summertime purchases can be successfully delivered to hot and arid climates, I'd still tend to avoid it as much as possible. I'd just make small and unavoidable purchases (a box or two if I was completely out of inventory) and nothing prized/expensive. I'd stock up like mad during the wintertime.

You are fine - I live in Phoenix & never had a real problem. I try and grab them ASAP off the porch or from the driver's hand - but never been detrimental with a nap afterwards.

Agree with above statements have lived in Palm Springs area for 16 years and have never had a problem with cigars cooking in the heat or beetle problems. Just let them rest in humi before smoking .

I try to refrain from ordering cigars in the summer as the heat in Vegas could be killer. Don't want the smokes to be sitting on a UPS truck waiting for the guy to deliver them which is usually about 2:30PM.

I get a lot of my Cigars from a shop in PA and sometimes they can sit in Aussie customs for two weeks plus 1 week to get here from the US.
I have never had a problem with drying out and we have wickedly hot days and nights over here. :D

I'm not really worried much about dry cigars, or even mold for that matter as I've heard you can wipe the mold with white vinegar and it kills it...I'm mostly worried about those creepy crawly lil bastiges...
