I have been on the road and busy with you name it so I haven't had a cigar for about a week. Well tonight I was excited to grab a glass of port and a Don Carlos #4. I lit up and eeeeeeeeek! 4 puffs later that thing was in the bottom of the stinky tray. I thought it was just a bad stick so I grab a Perdomo Reserve Cameroon. I bought a few a while back and haven't had one so I light her up and again what the fock am I tasting?!? I give it about 2 inches thinking it will turn around but nope. WTF is the matter with me (insert random jabs here :whistling: )? I walk inside and my wife says "Done so soon?" I told her I didn't want to talk about it. And no that's not the first time she has asked that.

The DC #4 had a distinct taste that I can't put my finger on, I will just describe it as metallic shit. I can't help but think my palette is just messed up for some reason. Please God let me sleep this off! :(

LOL

Yep, had my off nights as well. I can't says I've ever had a #4 that tasted like metallic shit though, lol.

In order to cure my taste buds I had to grab an Anejo 50. That did the trick.

:D...Metallic Shit...

I've absolutely had off nights. As insight said, a couple of days off usually does the trick. You may also be coming down with a cold or sinus infection of some sort; both those conditions (for me at least) pretty much take my taste buds "off line" and not in a good way...

Good Luck - B.B.S.

"Yes I would like to place an oder please..."

"sure, what would you like Mr. Fish"

"Its a tough choice but a pound of metallic shit should do the trick"

"shall I wrap that for you"

"no thanks, I'll just eat it here before I smoke"

Ditto. Right before I start coming down with something I notice it first when I'm smoking, whether it's cigars or cigs. It's easy to notice something off because you're so used to how it's supposed to taste.

I went through that one weekend afternoon. I lit up a Quintero Brevas and a few puffs in couldn't smoke it anymore. I let the wife try it and she said it was fine. I lit up an old reliably good NC next to get to the bottom of this and had the same terrible taste. I was in a state of panic for a couple of days worried that my humi may have something tainting the sticks inside. I took a break for a several days, grabbed another reliable stick from the humi and it smoked fine. Looking back, I was smoking on an empty stomach and 40+oz. of diet Mountain Dew. I actually think it had something to do with the sweeteners in the the diet soda. Something I no longer drink on the same day I plan to smoke.

Been smoking any Habanos lately? Ever since they became a bigger part of my rotation, I can't enjoy Hemingways like I used to and I get that same flavor in the second half. :( That makes Short Stories a lot shorter :(

Maybe your coming down with a cold and don't realize it yet? I'm reaching here.

You came back to the land of no humidity and dry cracked nasal membranes. You should file a workers comp claim. Traveling to humid climes can be hazardous to our health.

Been there too (not necessarily "metallic shit"), it sucks. A good shot of bourbon sometimes does the trick! If I hadn't been smoking much lately it was usually due to me coming down with a cold or something. Hope this misery is short-lasting.

Ok, you are a loser and your taste buds will never be the same, stop smoking and immediately sent your stash to me. :sign: :D

I had a real bad one, which was one of my favorites. I didn't think much about it, but now I feel like crap. Take that for what it is worth.

Good luck.

 LMAO.

I think just about everyone I know has suffered a similar scenario at some point in their smoking lives. As many have stated before, a few days off usually does the trick for me.

Hopefully you are all right and I am getting sick and it’s not some serious taste bud virus here to mess with my world. I will try again tonight and if the same thing happens I will take a couple days off.

You should all add “metallic shit” into your reviewing note vocabulary when appropriate.

I have had it happen before, It usually seemed to be something I drank before smoking the cigar, I toughed it out and eventually the cigar started to come around.. Seemed to happen with sweey drinks.

I have had several off nights and not to mention off days where anything I smoke tastes like crap. However I have found a solution!

Unsalted almonds! The unsalted alonds cleans the pallete and everything is uphill from there.

Try it out!
