Yellow Car Question

OK, this may sound weird. My wife thought I was losing it until yesterday when we spent the day driving around Detroit and she saw it first hand.

Six weeks ago I bought a new Chevy Cobalt in yellow. Wasn't my first choice of colour, but for the $$, I couldn't argue.

The issue is, I have been cut off more often, and have had more close calls, than in years & years of motorcycle riding, and none have been my fault.

Sometimes I think I'm bloody invisible!!! I mean, last Friday alone, in the space of probably a mile, I was almost in 3 accidents (and again I point out, NONE were my fault).

Is it possible that maybe the human eye takes longer to recognize a bright yellow or something?? This sounds stupid, but I'm really scared and I'm to the point where I WILL NOT allow my wife or daughter to drive my car.

Any LEO's with stats or Medical Professionals here who have something to tell me??
 
Add a bold black stripe. The yellow/black combo is the most easily perceived contrast to the human eye, that is why school busses and highway hazzard signs are this color.
 
color blind, I forgot the statistic but like 1 in 10 are color blind and even more have a hard time with bright colors. Oh and the fact that your driving around Detroit...

Maybe it's that Toronto Maple Leafs decal on the rear window, while driving through Hockeytown?
 
Not pure yellow but it's called Phoenix Yellow and haven't really noticed a diiference in the three years I've owned it:

It is not the color, it is what the color is on...I have yet to be cut off, rear ended, matter of fact, people tend to get out of my way, specially when the PIAA 520's fogs are on in the bad weather.

Truth is, there is a little known Michigan state law which restricts the sale of certain automobile model / color combinations, except to out-of-state customers and rental car agencies. ( This includes the light blue Ford Taraus, yellow Chevy Cobalts, and desert sand Pontiac Grand Ams. ) This allows Michiganders to easily spot visitors in order to release our Motor City road rage without pissing off our neighbors.

How bright of a yellow is it? And how shiny? Maybe its reflecting the sun so much that the other drivers are having a harder time judging how far away you are?

LMAO! Jim, let me remind you of something. You drive a chevy. Turn up "Like a Rock" by Bob Seger or "American Pie" by Don McLean, and tell the other drivers to get the hell out of your way! :cool:
 
I thought we were taught in driver's ed that any sign attached to a motor vehicle that says "Ontario" meant that said vehicle will automatically yield to other traffic.

Also Newfie, you are driving too slowly on 696 and I-75.
