    First One To Try

Jose Piedra Petit Cazadores. If you like that, you'll LOVE everything else. If you don't like it, well, at least it was only a $1.50 and everything else will be better than that.

    Havana update

I've heard reports through friends that Havana was relatively unscathed compared to the rest of the country and even areas east(?) of Havana. It's crazy how much talk there is concerning the tobacco yet it seems few people are really talking about the destruction to the area and homes in the...

    Custom Rolled CC

They only tell the tourists that :D I've been visiting Villanueva for the last few trips and never got that spiel, although I've heard it from others. I think it is partly due to recent increase in the number of people buying his customs. He seems to be catering to their wants...larger vitolas...

    Progression in the Cuban Govt.

You guys would be surprised at the cell phones they have there. Some of the cabbies carry $$$$ cell phones.

    Partagas Aristocrats

It all depends on how much you pay for them and what you're in the mood to smoke. I think all of the MM offer great value. A couple of years ago I made the point of heavily stocking up on MM. A lot of what I could get my hands on had 5+ years without any premium in cost. There are still some...

Update on the status of Cuba from the Miami Herald

The 20% is referring to US$ exchanged for CUC.

Any other custom rollers out there?

$50.00 for a diademas?!?! That's a 5X markup. Somebody is making a lot of money and it isn't La China or Cueto.

Any other custom rollers out there?

They're only expensive if they're sold by a third party or through a vendor. Prices of all customs are regulated in Cuba so a salamone is 8CUC no matter which roller- that is, unless you can get a discount.

Any other custom rollers out there?

I picked up some robustos from him in April '06 at the LCDH at El Morro where he works. 4 CUC each. I didn't care for that particular blend- too grassy for my tastes. As far as I know, he is still there. Selection is limited there, not to mention small and touristy at times, so it's not a shop...

    Leather Smoking Chairs

bicast leather is shredded leather that is compressed to sheet form, with a vinyl topcoat. One step above vinyl as far as appearance but overall, not as durable (depending on quality) since the shredded leather tends to crumble when exposed. Some are better than others but don't expect it to...

    Cigar Shops in Vancouver

Try City Cigar on 6th Ave. RyJ Churchill will run about $40 CDN +/-. So, about $1000 but you might get a discount for a box. They have a lounge you can smoke in and selection is good. Better to buy online, though.

Smoking Ban In Cuba .............. WTF?

The ban has been in place for at least a year but I don't think it is really enforced, unless they are being more stringent in the last few months. I've had friends come back in the last few weeks and no comments regarding no smoking rules. In the all-inclusive resorts, most enclosed dining...

    Never heard this excuse before...

Empty boxes are not allowed to be sold or given out, as Newfie has stated. I believe it has to do with keeping track of hologram serial numbers. Each box has a hologram. Each hologram has a serial number. Each serial number is tracked to a store. Boxes can't (not supposed to) leave the country...

    Just some research. . .

With over 50 views so far, I guess everyone else is too tired to post :p The box is fake- or at least was not through official channels. The Serial No. font should be non-serif not to mention there are an incorrect number of digits. Vendido en Cuba por Cubanacan is also a dead giveaway

    EL SURCO

I haven't heard of that brand but looks like a Peso cigar to me too. The band is similar to other Peso bands, in it's simplicity. You'll probably find that it tastes similar to a Jose Piedra. As for the price...sorry to say but that was a bigger ripoff than a glass top box. I would also FREEZE...
