So I'm out on business yesterday and I see one of these Tobacco Shops that has the "Fine Cigars" sign in the front window. I don't ever expect much walking into these places that concentrate more on cigarette sales than anything, but you never know what you might stumble across.

I walk in and see a medium sized walk in at the rear of the shop. Nothing special inside, but everything seems to be properly cared for with a good humidification system, humidity levels, etc.

I'm looking through some boxes to see if the Short Story's or Work of Art's are Maduro when a sealed box of Ashton ESG 20 Year Salute catches my eye. The next thing I notice is a price tag on it for $78.00. :0

I take it up front and the lady at the register gets ready to ring it up.

Me: "Is this the correct price on the box?"
Cashier: "Yes it is."
Me: "Are you sure? It seems way too cheap."
Cashier to Manager or Owner: "Brenda is this box of cigars priced correctly at $78.00?"
Brenda: (In raspy voice that sounds like she smokes up all the cigarette profits the store makes) "That's correct! They were here from the previous owner four or five years ago. We can't seem to give those things away."
Me: "Okay, I'll take the entire box then."

I was on cloud nine when I left. Later on I started to feel guilty, as if I had taken advantage and should have been more adamant, saying these things sell for about $450.00 a box.

My wife thinks I did the right thing in questioning it and really did not even have to do that.

What would you have done?

You're golden bro! You did the honest thing, and they gave you an honest price! Thank the Good Lord, and enjoy them!

Sometimes you get lucky. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

That is fantastic. As long as you tried to verify, you did nothing wrong. If they couldn't even give them away for $78, they are probably happy for the sale.

I think you did just the right thing. Joe hit the nail on the head, sometimes you get lucky!

I would have done the same as you. No reason to argue with them over their price being too low after they've double checked it.

Previous owner's stock, came with the store . . . they're not out anything and you scored bigtime.

I probably wouldn't have even asked, but I'm a shit that way.

um... wow?

Come fishing with me... I want to catch the tagged fish worth money and with your luck...

I think you did all that could be expected of you. Not like it was just some employee who could care less. The owner verified the price. Nice score

$78 seems about the right price for these. Maybe some time has made them better, though. Nice score, either way!

I like your honesty(in your post). I thought about just going up and seeing what they rang up as, then acting surprised/walking away if it came up to MSRP. I just had to ask though. I have the worlds worst poker face.

You don't know how bad I've been wanting to come do that Jim. Donella keeps telling me "You're not going to Alaska without me."

I've had some newer releases of these that were ok, but better with time. I had a 20 year salute from 2006 that I smoked back in 2007 that was damn tasty and still stands out. If this box is from 2007 or 2008, they should be pretty good John.

Still, I wouldn't pay close to MSRP for a box though.

Great score brother. You handled it perfectly. I'm proud of you  .

Handled with honor my friend, enjoy the sticks with a completely clear conscience.

I think you handled it perfectly and I would have done the same. Nice Score I always think it's strange the cigars that will just sit on a shelf depending on the area you are in.
