Hey All....

My wonderful wife out of the clear blue surprised me with a new Ligne 2, lighter from an authorized dealer. I can afford Dupont fluid...no problem. What I want to know is....if I get the "yellow/gold" brass butane adapter can I use some of the higher refined/filtered butane ...11x-14x premium butane?

Wouldn't the highest ...purest butane be the best? Staying with Dupont butane in their line 2, lighter the best move?? I know their warranty ...but just curious.

Thanks!!!

Fine the best "x" refined you can. Vector makes a good product, and some other Mfg's do also. Don't be fooled thinking Dupont is the savior. In the end, you will gain some years, but also add to your lighter collection. They all go south over time

I second pug’s vector butane. I’ve never had issues with it.

Agree with this 100 percent, and use your nice lighters when you go to the club, or have friends over... use your cheap lighters for everyday use...

I use the Xikar PUROFINE High Performance Premium Butane, it's the one in the all black can and cap. I made the move from Vector about two years ago. I had previously used Vector for about 5 years or so. I like the Xikar stuff better. I find it lasts longer, burns hotter, and I have slightly less issues with my lighters. But I would have no issues running Vector in my lighters and would recommend both. Just with Xikar getting a slightly higher nod.

I've used this stuff forever, and it works great. At this price, you're paying about $4.08 for a hairspray sized can of butane. Nothing wrong with the other recommendations, just pointing out what has worked perfectly for me:

I have 2 ST Dupont DEFI Extreme's, I was using the Xikar Purofine like I do in my other lighters and I was having issues. I switched to the ST Dupont Black as recommended by ST Dupont and they fire every time perfectly.

Is there really a huge difference in the butane brands or quality that could cause issues with the lighter or cigar taste? I feel like I have not smoked enough cigars to notice the difference if there was 😄

Yes, absolutely.
Cheap fuel, like you'd use in a soldering iron will foul a lighter quick.

When it comes to taste, IMHO butane is pretty much butane. Just be sure you're using multi-filtered (3X, 5X, etc.) stuff and you should be fine.

Yes, you could.

Formula may matter. It's about the jets and parts.

Use their fuel.
