Space Geeks

I haven't looked into their reasoning, but seems like most rockets try to launch as close to the equator as possible where this launch was from Alaska. Glad they made it up without a hitch!

To clarify, I understand why most rocket launches are from as close to the equator as feasible, just unsure of why this company launches from so far north.

The cool thing about Astra is their rocket is designed to fit inside a shipping container. So it can be easily transported and produced off site.

There is an upcoming launch today, I don't see a live stream for it. Expected launch is 11am CST. It will lift off from Kazakhstan with 3 astronauts to dock with the ISS. The reading below is interesting, but what's really interesting about this is the difference that SpaceX has made by going private sector.. Look at the comparison pictures at the bottom

Information on the launch

What they will be in on the flight up and the return to earth on this flight. (Remember they are ramming a 3rd guy in there also)

UPDATE: Pushed out 1 day, so now tomorrow @ 11am CST

Dang... none of that vid is in English!

It's still cool though.. 😎

I watch it on their app yeah.

Some of the ISS streams are just amazing to view.. watching them point out certain places or geographic events can be captivating. Seeing the entire country's current weather occurring and comparing both coasts in just a few seconds.

Or during the Northern Lights. The aurora borealis vids from the space station are mesmerizing. Even if I have to do it at Bill Shatner's age, I would give all I have to go up someday.

And props to him and all those stairs at 90! That alone was a feat.

Tomorrow a few rich people are going to be doing rich people things. They are going to be riding Jeff Bezos's penis rocket into "sub-orbit" again. It was cool the first few times, now it's a competition on who has more money to burn.... I suppose it's fitting the rocket looks like a giant ..... well I've already said it once in in this post and I don't need Brad getting to excited.

Link with info on launch and who is paying the big money.

Launch should be live streamed on their page and on their website

Have you wondered if this isn't tax deductible? Those launches cost some serious change, but if it's data is shared by NASA etc. maybe there is a benefit.

Well, it's a rather basic business model and the costs of running it would qualify for tax write-offs like any other business. He's selling a service-based experience.

So is the guy who owns the tilt-a-whirl at your county fair. Business related expenses would be deductible. Plus he's charging something like a quarter mil per seat.

I wonder if he did something like granted a free ride for the Make A Wish foundation would he be able to write down the "retail" cost of the flight?

That would be interesting to see how it was treated.

T Minus 20 Minutes

Coming up on April 6th (tentative) Musk is going to tell Bezos to "hold his beer". SpaceX is going to launch their new "crew dragon 2" for the first time with 4 space tourists (first time for this also). This mission will dock with the ISS where they will spend 8 days. The total mission time is 10 days, 1 up, 8 getting in the way of the scientists aboard the ISS, and 1 down. I know Dan said above the rumored $250,000+ is the price tag for Blue Origin's 10 minute flight to space. One of the passengers of this SpaceX flight was swinging his balls around and said he paid 50 MILLION for this flight. In comparison, it's worth every penny on what you get with SpaceX verses the Blue Origin's bang for your buck.

Thinking about it, how ingenious is this on the part of SpaceX. Although they don't come out and say it, I assume this is a resupply mission also. So NASA and the Russians are paying SpaceX to bring supply's to the space station. Then Axiom is paying them to bring these tourists up there as well. Both are paying what I assume is full price for the trip up and back.

Here is a link in case you want to learn more, or find out who is traveling into space. This is where you can find the link for the liftoff as we get closer.

Possible SpaceX launch today with just a satellite or two. Launch window opens at 11:15am CST or in 30 minutes.
