HDTV

I have a big screen HD capable TV in the family room. We have Direct TV and use a Tivo box but don't have the HD receiver. I know I don't ever want to give up the features of a tivo style receiver..... god I love those features..... but I did want to upgrade to the HD tivo receiver and just can't convince myself its worth the $800 - $1,000 for the receiver.

If anyone knows where to pick one up on the cheap let me know otherwise I'll have to wait the year or two it takes for the prices to drop 75%. :)
I got the DirecTV HD reciever w/ TIVO from Best Buy, I paid $815.00 for it, this is only because it was an open box item. Other than that I really like it.

On DirecTV they only have about 5 HD channels, so I went to Ebay and bought an off air antenna, which clips on my dish. Plus the reciever has a port for the antenna.

I have had the HD reciever for about 1 week, and I have only watched about 1 hour of it, since I have been working so much.

As too getting the reciever cheaper, I have seen them on Ebay for about $799 plus $50 shipping.

I just got hit with having to replace my furnace and coil to the tune of 2 1/2 large ones so a $1,000 receiver is not in my immeadiate future unless I skip a few boxes of cigars........

As I was saying, a $1,000 receiver is not in my immeadiate future! ;) :sign:

Did you ever get the receiver?

Since I got the 360, I figure a HDTV is next. I don't need those huge TV's, I like around a 30 in., since I play in the basement so I can yell and cuss without being heard.

change to cable.  Time Warner offers HD DVR boxes at no additional charge
I called my cable service here (Time Warner) about a month or so ago and they told me you could not have a HD receiver and tivo on the same TV. At least they couldn't provide it. They told me I would have to go buy the unit.

Maybe I should make another call and threaten my satellite company with leaving because the cable company is offering me the complete setup to switch. :sneaky:

Man, you're getting screwed there. I've had a dual tuner HD DVR box from Timer Warner for over 2 years now.

You are looking at a post from December 2004, not December 2006. :whistling:

Damn. They should really color code the year so I won't make this same mistake over and over!

Congratulations on the HDTV!! Here is a question for all, does anyone have a black and white TV that works that they are willing to sell?? I would love to have it for a science project!!
