How to Make CP Better

IMO,

Less posts = less views = less clicks = less revenue to pay the bills around here. Rod, correct me if I'm wrong.

Just because somebody posts something doesn't mean you have to read it. Most of the thread subject descriptions in here are pretty accurate. If I click on a thread and spend twenty minutes reading "me too" and smiley face posts, who's fault is that, really? Mine. That rarely happens; most of the time I skim posts, scrolling past the short ones and reading the ones that are a paragraph or more in length. But when it does happen, it is because I chose to do it.

We are just a bunch of knuckleheads :D talking about cigars, I don't see that changing anytime soon. Yes, sometimes there are conflicts, but that comes with community, especially ones like ours where people invest of themselves and have high ownership. I'll take ownership, investment, and the occasional dust-up over the alternative, which is just another board with no brotherhood.

As I said, just my humble opinion.

JK

Jim - what I think you and Steve are missing is the fact that since there is an "explosion" of membership here the last six months or so (and yes, it is an explosion) there has been more posts = more views = more clicks = more revenue to pay the bills around here. Now add the fact that there are an increasing number of individuals who find it necessary to add :p and  as their only contribution to a thread - or "top", "ttt", etc. to sale threads - or start threads containing information that is best posted on the Oprah Winfry or Dr. Phil boards... I'm sorry, but it does overall make threads more difficult to read.

Tom, in fact, actually makes a great point. When I come into the board several times a day the list of changed and new threads sometimes reaches 3 pages. If I'm not able to check it for a day or two it reaches 6 pages. Any more than that and it's impossible to catch up. If I wade through all of the posts, about 30% have some kind of useful content (and I'm being generous in the 30%). So I tend to skip over topics which seem to be useless, because it APPEARS "most of the thread subject descriptions in here are pretty accurate..." Later, someone mentions something about that thread and I tell them I never read it... How the hell did I miss that...

The answer is - I missed it through all the noise in the room. If the room were just a tad bit quieter - not a lot - threads would be that much easier to read.

Well maybe if you wouldn't type a freaking novel each time you posted, threads would be shorter?

:p

2.8 posts per day..... I also feel left out

Oh sorry, this is also one of those useless posts

OK........ just skip this one

Like this thread Distribution Lists

The author admits to knowing that the topic was already discussed once.......

Should have asked Rod in PM......

Hmmmmmm...... that was weird....... I made a new post but it appeared in the last post I made......

Damn.... how do I get my post count up

Or perhaps knowing it was put off until the upgrade, asking once instead of Rod receiving a bunch of other emails because if you don't get the PM, you don't get the info. This post had merit, but you pointing out that it didn't did not. So go grind yer axe some where else jerky.

I don't mind seeing people post things here, sort of reminds me of hanging out w/ my buddies. Everyone is different and I don't think it would be the same w/ people ONLY posting pertinent to the topic.

Did Freebern really post this ... wow .... he must be getting some lately

This topic along with "this place was better way back when" seem to arise regularly on a couple of discussion boards that I read. It seems that some folks come to these boards for the information while others come for the camaraderie as Freebern mentions above. Me, 4.1 posts a day tells you why I come here.

Nope, I'm slowly becoming George Constanza. Ya know the episode where he becomes really smart since he gave "it" up?

:whistling:

Jim - what I think you and Steve are missing...

George, I can't speak for Jim, but I don't feel I'm missing anything. I think I have a pretty good understanding of the opinions that have been expressed in this thread. I see where all of the posters are coming from and appreciate why they feel the way they do. I think what you may be missing is that it does not bother me that others post  or :whistling: or :p .

As in life, opinions are individual and varied on this board. Personally, I think that's a very good thing. I don't expect everyone to share all of my opinions and I think it's inappropriate for you to tell me I'm missing something because I don't share one of yours.

But that's just my opinion...

So what you're saying is-
YADA, YADA, YADA?

I think that everyone should share MY opinion about cigars, especially my wife... :p

Let me know how that works out for ya. LOL... Well, even if we all seem to agree and disagree at the same time, at least aint out trying to lynch anyone over it. So I guess we are progressing as a group.

( 0.4 posts per day / 0.06% of total forum posts )

I barely made that list... and thats only because I've made less than 50 posts (err, make it 51) in the last 6 months (and only because of the GB). However, prior to this mini-hiatus... all my posts were completely useful and thought provoking. Damn you for insinuating otherwise.

Bastard.

Just some more food for thought - at least HALF of the posts in this thread alone were worthless (including this one). :whistling:

[added] I like this new edit feature.
