IMO,
Less posts = less views = less clicks = less revenue to pay the bills around here. Rod, correct me if I'm wrong.
Just because somebody posts something doesn't mean you have to read it. Most of the thread subject descriptions in here are pretty accurate. If I click on a thread and spend twenty minutes reading "me too" and smiley face posts, who's fault is that, really? Mine. That rarely happens; most of the time I skim posts, scrolling past the short ones and reading the ones that are a paragraph or more in length. But when it does happen, it is because I chose to do it.
We are just a bunch of knuckleheadstalking about cigars, I don't see that changing anytime soon. Yes, sometimes there are conflicts, but that comes with community, especially ones like ours where people invest of themselves and have high ownership. I'll take ownership, investment, and the occasional dust-up over the alternative, which is just another board with no brotherhood.
As I said, just my humble opinion.

Jim - what I think you and Steve are missing is the fact that since there is an "explosion" of membership here the last six months or so (and yes, it is an explosion) there has been more posts = more views = more clicks = more revenue to pay the bills around here. Now add the fact that there are an increasing number of individuals who find it necessary to add

Tom, in fact, actually makes a great point. When I come into the board several times a day the list of changed and new threads sometimes reaches 3 pages. If I'm not able to check it for a day or two it reaches 6 pages. Any more than that and it's impossible to catch up. If I wade through all of the posts, about 30% have some kind of useful content (and I'm being generous in the 30%). So I tend to skip over topics which seem to be useless, because it APPEARS "most of the thread subject descriptions in here are pretty accurate..." Later, someone mentions something about that thread and I tell them I never read it... How the hell did I miss that...
The answer is - I missed it through all the noise in the room. If the room were just a tad bit quieter - not a lot - threads would be that much easier to read.
