Seadub and I had a nice trip and enjoyed a good smoke but came back empty handed due to lack of immediate availability and the UNBELIEVEABLE PRICES!! Yep, they went UP in price from last year. Here is the text from a price list email I got this morning AFTER I left to go down there:

Dear Alan ,.,,, Master Rodolfo Taboada will be here for 30 days , please make your orders in advance.

Please let me know.

Respectfully.
Moises Vargas.

I have saved the best:

Senor Taboada found 3 exceptional tobaccos this year!!!
Qunceañera Ligero, Volado, & Seco: Tobacco of this quality has not been seen by Master Taboada in over 10 years.
Corrojo wrapper!!!!!!! That's right. . . Corrojo!!!!!

Eventhough they did not have enough cigars to sell bundles right then and there, they are taking orders and do take credit cards now.

We both smoked Taboada Sublimes that were rolled just for us as soon as we arrived. They were fantastic cigars!! Very fresh and potent!

Post here if you might still have interest in group buys. If there is still much interest I will make a post in the buy/sell/trade section as to what vitola or vitolas we can order for a group buy providing the money can be raised. I would like in on a few of the sizes.

I am deleting all previous PMs due to this price increase and the large number of them that I would have to respond to. I will check HERE for interest 1st. PM me if and when I make the group buy posts.

Hey Atuck,
That sounds like a splendid plan! I'd definitely be in for some of those. Details to be worked out later. PM me to hash over those details.

Thanks for checking it out and I'm happy to hear you had an amazing smoke!

Is it just me or does $35-50 per stick seem a bit much?

I'm still in Alan. I'd love to get in on any of them, pretty much. When/if the buy/trade thread comes up, we can PM re: details.

Perhaps, but for the quality and rarity, it is not really THAT extreme.
I would rather smoke a taboada with a few years on it than many relatively "standard" ISOMs with real age on them that cost at least as much (not saying I'd pass up on origninal release gold medals, mind you....)
Edit to add: at 35-50 bucks a stick, would a bundle be worth it? Probably not. But to have 3-6 of them, I think so.

I agree that personal preferences of cost limits prevail from one ISOM lover to the next. But then again, you're talking to someone who paid $5,000 for master tapes to Who concerts! So, $35 is peanuts for personal enjoyment (well, as far as I'm concerned anyways). :whistling:

Nope, it's not just you. :p I've smoked a handful of these. Great cigars without question. Unique blend (at least the ones I've smoked). Perfect construction. However, they are not better than some of my favorites among regular production Habanos that I pay $8-$12 a stick for. Unique? Yes. Rare? Yes and no, since he keeps coming back to TJ. Worth $35 to $50 a stick to me, no. Am I glad I purchased the ones that I did? Absolutely (thanks, Alan).

Just my 0.02.

Alan, thanks for the update. I'm still in for some of these. You said he will be there the whole month of July?

I will be interested depending on when this goes down. :D

If he indeed has some higher quality leaf compared to the last couple of years, the price is not out of line with what these are normally sold for outside of Cuba. On the island however, the exact same cigars would go for closer to $8-$10 a piece.

The 04's were awesome as well as the DP blends (and both were a lot cheaper - LOL!) but the 05s weren't anywhere near as good. I am very curious to see how these compare, especially with the dramatic price increase!

If you pick them up, PLEASE do a review (a comparison if possible). I'd be very interested in hearing thoughts!

Will do. Please send two 04's and o5's for comparison purposes.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I've got to add some pics. All I can say is the cigar I smoked was incredible! The construction, feel, draw and power (which sneaked up on me and absolutely kicked my ass...WOW! so I probably won't be making fun of Chewbacco anymore  ) was absolutely Sublime. Look on people...

Alan and I both had one of these rolled-before-our-eyes Taboada Bolivar Sublimes. This thing was a monster!

mmmmmm... Delicious!

edited to add: Are these daily smokes? I don't think anyone would consider these a daily (except for maybe...Peat :D ). So for the price I think it's a smoke for a truly special occassion when you have some time to spend (and in my case just a little recovery time  ). But to make any comparision of one of these cigars rolled by a true Artist to a daily smoke just isn't fair, because it's not comparing apples to apples. I'm not sure the picture truly does it justice. That Corrojo wrapper is so rich... I'm shaking my head right now, because I'm a newb and I'm in awe.

I'd sold...Just depends on when you are doing this cuz I could be interested in a 1/2 box. Maybe a full one. Its all about timing.

I too am in for a few. Thanks again, gentlemen.

Hey, nice photos!

I'm definitely in for 10, not a problem! I'm making my list as we speak!
I'd even be willing to pay for gas for Alan and company, for all your hard work and trouble getting there.

Getting stoked! :) :) :)   :) :)
