I was going through this months edition of CA, and was reminded that the Padron 6000(dont know if its a N or a M) was rated 91. Does this mean that a 3000 is also rated 91 because its the same blend or same tobacco? How does this rating translate to the other sizes of this brand and others?

No, it doesn't. They are considered two different cigars.

However, those ratings don't really matter all that much.

I'm understanding the real question here to be would one vitola of a brand be similiar to another vitola. Yes and no, there are similiarities in some and not in others. Although many disregard the ratings in cigar mags, some swear by them, I guess you can use them as a starting point. But in the case of the Padrons you're talking about, at their price point, it'd be worth it for you to pick up a couple of each and see for yourself.

I would usually start here

Top 25 Cigar

That way I can read what numerous people have to say about it, how they rate construction, appearance, flavor, etc, and I pay special attention to the ones that dish out the bad reviews. Someone saying its a great smoke doesn't help me narrow down what's so great about the cigar, while someone else saying "its a good smoke, but not so great" and lists some reasons why will tell me more about the cigar, and its short comings.

A lot of people think negatively, and for them, as well as my self, it is easier to pin point the flaws in something rather than appraise the total worth based on good points. The negative reviews won't stop me from trying a cigar for myself, but they tend to give me a better perspective on what to expect. i.e. - too mild = good mild smoke, too strong = good nicotine kick.

I think you're better off reading a cigar rag than the top25 site. That site has lots of people posting on it - some knowledgable, most not. So, the idiots are going to out vote the good guys. I think looking at a cigar rating is a good idea to sort of know the quality of the stick, but, then again, so is looking at the band. A quality company will never produce an outright bad stick because it'll hurt their brand name.

I've had a few Perdomos that prove you wrong :p

I'm not so sure I'd put Perdomo up there with a quality company - I've never had anything from them I've actually been happy about - cheap or expensive.

And that makes three of us. Someone got me a Perdomo Cabinet, Special Reserve, super spectacular, most amazing cigar for my birthday last Feb. Well I finally pulled it out and smoked it. Didn't make it much past halfway before I had to "put it down". So I smoked an LGC to make me feel better! Life is good!! :p

I find all Padrons to be very good to Superb, forget the number, I don't believe any of them will disappoint you.

No...CA is always right and whatever they say is what I smoke...same with Cigar Magazine!!! ;)
Thats not what i ment, though i didn't phrase it right.

That was more my point. Good point about the price.

I agree with you there, and I guess thats what spurred my question. I realy like 2 and 3xxx's. Again, to put it poorly, how much better would a 6000 be then the 2 or 3xxx's that i like. Guess I take the Pepsi challenge.

I think what folks were hinting at is that the review scores at CA are more driven by advertising dollars spent than the actual cigar.

Although they review quite a few Habanos, and none of them advertise.

But then Habanos do not seem to be doing as well as they once did, back in the late 90's and early 2000. Perhaps that's testament ot changing tastes or improvement in NCs.
