Ok I've looked everywhere on the planet. I can't find any video of it. But I'd have to say one of the most innovative solo's of its time was Terry Kath playing Freeform Guitar.

Off to look for some John Freshante now.

I didn't think John Mayer had any rivals in the creepy facial expressions department, but he's close: Buckethead.

Pretty simple but neat effect borrowed from the turntable arts.
