The true MVP of the Superbowl was Prince. He not only proved he could still bring it, he showed how to incorporate "old style" into his current vision. Just look at the diversity of what he covered:

"We Will Rock You" -- by Queen, written by Brian May
"Proud Mary" -- by Ike & Tina Turner and CCR, written by John Fogerty
"All Along the Watchtower" -- by Jimi Hendrix, written by Bob Dylan
"Best of You" -- by the Foo Fighters, written by Dave Grohl

And he can still play the hell out of his guitar.
 
I slept through half time. I'm sorry I missed him as I've been a fan of his. That's what happens when you have to work the weekend and you show up to work at 0630 hrs. :(

You mean Yusuf Islam? Just becase he converted to Islam doesn't make him a bad man. Sure, he and Rushdie have their bones, but last I checked becoming a member of any religion doesn't necessarily make you a bad guy.

To each, his own destiny. Luckily, he can't screw up anything already recorded. You're right, Ray. It was like old times. The kid done good.
 
I never paid him much attention until I watched a documentary in the early 90's that had the audacity to compare Prince to Jimmy Hendrix. I was amazed that someone would put this pop Diva on the same level as a true guitar great, then they did a split screen of the two playing and I saw Prince for the talented artist he really is. Amazing.
 
If you look at Prince as a complete package musician and showman, you can see Jimi, James Brown, Chuck Berry and a few other greats all rolled in. Diva yes, but many of the great musicians are or were Divas. If you listen to his music without the vocals it is complex, lively and soulful. :thumbs:

Absolutely, just for clarification I meant that at the time I could only see him as a Diva but after seeing the comparison I was able to appreciate his talent.
 
I only saw him once and that was 20 years ago for the Sign O' The Times tour in '87 but I was amazed with his playing, not so much the songs but he is one of the best guitarists of his generation. I'd put him right next to Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai or Joe Satriani with no problem.

I saw him then too. I also saw him on the Diamonds and Pearls tour. Both incredible shows. He is definitely one of the best showmen around, and as everyone else has said, he has amazing ability with his guitar. It was a great half-time show...although I really was hoping to see a scantily clad Sheila Escovedo standing behind him.
 
Yupp, I’ve herd some of his stuff and its pretty good music. I know he made mad money but if he wasn’t such a diva I think he really could have prolonged his career. But because of that people don’t want to even give him a chance.

Absolutly correct! What a GREAT performance! Old school touch was perfect....it sort of reminded me of 'Drum Line' with the marching band ...awsome!
