DC Office:

Washington, D.C. 20515-2305

Home District office:
2100 Plymouth Avenue North
Minneapolis, MN 55411

Have fun :whistling:

Billy

Thanks! I was just about to ask for that.

Gonz, who're you kidding? You know you voted for the guy!

Rep. Tancredo (the smoker in the story) Is my congressman, and I have worked for him in the past. Infact, his name is the "credo" in my screen name. This is the nicest guy you will ever meet, and he sure as hell enjoysw a good cigar. This story just goes to show all of us how nuts the majority in Washington is (not just the Democrats, but a lot of Republicans as well)

You have got to wonder how that phone call went.

Police -"Hello DC Police"
Ellison - "Hi this is Representative Keith Ellison"
Police -"Hello sir, how are you today"
Ellison -"Not well. My neighbor seems to be smoking a cigar in his office"
Police -"Ok......??"
Ellison -"I want him to put it out because I don't like it"
Police -"He isn't doing anything illegal sir. What would you like us to do?"
Ellison -"I would like you to come here and make him stop"
Police -"Alright sir. Why don't you go ask him to"
Ellison -"I don't do well with people"

If this guy can't solve his own problems with people, how the hell is he suposed to be an effective representative. Oh wait, there I go using logic again

The first paragraph of the article says it all...

"Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) believes it is his right as a Muslim to be sworn into Congress with the Quran. But apparently, the freshman lawmaker doesn’t believe it’s Rep. Tom Tancredo’s (R-Colo.) right to smoke a cigar in his congressional office."

When will the madness end? Once again a case of "I don't like it, so you shouldn't do it." I think I will send him a case of "Havana Honeys" to show my support. :whistling:

Actually, there should be some penalty for insisting the police respond to a non-crime. That is a resource that is being abused. Also, I was amazed this POS didn't even have the decency to knock on his door first!

Tancredo said he would not stop smoking in his office. “Heck, no!” he said. “If he [Ellison] would have [had] the courtesy to say something I’m sure I would have been more accommodating to his wishes.”

I love it. Smoke him out, Tancredo! He should drill holes in the wall and blow smoke over.

The CNN video gave a quick look at the cigars the congressman smokes. I could not catch what brand they were. Anyone recognize them?

Any office workers here allowed to smoke cigars where they work? I wish I could...

This brings up a very important point, what are the regulations for the Rep. to smoke in his office? Let's not forget that it is these very same men that are instituting laws that prevent us from smoking where we please.

Anybody know if he was legally allowed to smoke indoors?

Yes, in their offices, Congress critters are exempt from local and federal anti-smoking laws. They may also keep and consume alcohol in their offices.

On the other hand, this lowly federal worker (HMFIC, SLBSP*) does not enjoy the same privilege.

Unfortunately this asshat is in my district!

Hey, I think you are wrong!! I think the same guy has a place next to me. It sort of is what my neighbor did to me. Maybe we should give up cigars and go to crack. The crack houses get less complaints!

The Honorable Tom Trancredo
United States House of Representatives

Dear Mr. Congressman,

I saw the news report regarding Congressman Keith Ellison’s absurd way of dealing with his dislike of your cigar smoke and I was incensed. Unfortunately, as I did not vote for him and do not care much for the man in general, I am a constituent in Mr. Ellison’s district. This, however, does not mean I am in any way a fan of the Republican Party and/or your position on many issues. Your positions on many political topics are diametrically opposed to my own. That being said, I would sit down and have a smoke with you anytime long before I would sit in the same room with someone who finds it appropriate to call the cops on a neighbor regarding such a petty matter before even introducing himself. To that end, I have enclosed a few smokes for your office. I hope that you enjoy them. I am delighted in knowing that Mr. Ellison will not.

Kind regards,

A fellow brother of the leaf,

Khris Lassard

Looks as though he's apologized:
Taken from CigarCyclopedia
"Ellison says he’s sorry:
Representative Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota) sent a handwritten note of apology to Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado) for the furor caused by Ellison’s press secretary, who called Capitol police to investigate what turned out to be smoke from Tancredo’s cigar in the adjoining office.

The press secretary, Rick Jauert, told Fox News that the situation had been blown out of proportion and that “we’re talking war and peace in a historic debate this week and people are talking about cigar smoke?”
%%pagebreak%% No, Rick, you’re the one who called about cigar smoke. One of the most vexing issues in Iraq is the lack of tolerance by Iraqis for each other, especially between Shiite and Sunni; as the first Muslim Congressman, Ellison and his staff would do well to show more tolerance rather than less."
