I just recieved my box today, and I am impressed. I see the obvious Cuban style that they're going for. The box design is wonderful. I love the "Edition Limitada" sticker and the box code along with what I presume is the factory (I was under the impression that there was only one factory) is a nice edition and something I think is sorely needed for non-cuban cigars.

This is all well and good, but then I opened the box. The seals were all intact and it hadn't been opened by the vendor. Here's what I found.

All I can say is WTF? The Padilla/Pepin people go to all this trouble of creating a wonderful limited release smoke and then ship a box like this? Only one stick has minor damage to the wrapper.

I expected much better quality than this. I got all the bands back into place, 3-4 were pretty loose. I think there may have been several reasons why this happened.
1.) These are "true rounds," not the box pressed round cigars like most Cuban or Padrons come in. This means that the cigars don't fit together very well and they shift easily.
2.) There is no cedar sleeve seperating the two layers of cigars.

Do you all think this is a problem with the vendor? I don't think they knew about this because all the seals are intact and it was shipped very well with alot of packing material. It was very cheap though. Could it be a problem on Padilla's end? I only ask because I have a feeling that this might have to do with how the cigars were originally packaged in the factory.

I don't see any thing that would cause them to smoke poorly. I'm gonna keep the box and contact the vendor Monday and make them aware of this. Has anyone else had an issue like this before with a box of 1932 they've ordered?

Nice pics MT, sorry bro that you have had back luck lately with some smokes..

I really doubt that it's a vendor issue.I would contact the vendor and see if they can get in touch with thier supplier and maybe get another box for you.

I agree, that's unfortunate. I got a box of 8&11's from Al and it was fine. It has a different presentation with the cigars fitting rather snugly.

I appreciate Padilla's attempts at marking the box. Hopefully they work out their packaging issues.

Good luck on Monday.

Rob

This is my humble opinion, but I would return the box to the vendor for a replacement box. You paid a top dollar and deserve the best. One possibility, and it is hard to tell by the pictures, is that they were not stored properly. I don't know if the vendor will agree to a replacement, but you deserve better. I would even recommend to the vendor that he opens and inspects the next box he sends you to see if the problem is a pervasive one. I know it is a lot of work but us cigar smokers demand the best if we are willing to pay for it. My two cents. If you keep them, let us know how they are. Enjoy!!

It is clearly a manufacturing defect. Those sticks are tightly packed together, so extra care would be placed upon the compilation of the package. All bands should be applied in the same orientation, facing name up, and at the same spot on each of the sticks. The damaged wrapper is further proof of this, it is most likely caused by improper handling rather than improper storage.

For such a premium price stick from such a premium quality producer, I too expected more quality control.

Disclaimer - I'm not an expert, just very opinionated.

I think you should return them, no one should be expected to accept damaged sticks. When they see the condition first hand the root cause should be addressed. I really do like the direction they are headed with packaging and box codes. I hope the attention to detail improves though.

Doug

I would return them for refund or replacement.

X2. My box came in perfect. I did have problems with 2 different boxes of Pepin Black labels though. I had a few from each box with damage on the foot, but still very smokable.

Thats sucks on yours though! Sorry man.

I think we are going to see more problems like this down the road. Pepin has blown up so fast and is pumping out so many different brands/blends for people, that it's impossible to not have some quality control issues. Furthermore, so many of his cigars, with the exception of the Tatuaje's, taste pretty much the same. They all have an identical profile and flavor. I tend to buy the least expensive ones because of it. Don't get me wrong, I love the profile, but the only difference are varying degrees of strength IMHO. The Pepin Legend is an exception IMO and doesn't taste much like a Pepin stick and isn't that good (too mild, with a second grade wrapper).

I keep thinking the same thing myself regarding the explosion in production, but every box of Pepins I've seen has been perfect, to include those made in Nicaragua. How this could happen, esp. with a high-dollar offering like the 1932 is beyond me. Admittedly, I still have a lot to learn.

My first thought was that the box was dropped on one end, and hard. But looking at the pics, I'm not sure that's possible. I hate to think that's a manufacturing defect, considering he was once Cuba's quality control man. If it is, I hope he takes care of it quickly. If it's not, he may simply have a disgruntled employee on his hands. :)

Whatever, I hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction, and post the outcome, MT!

Changed your mind about those 1932's huh.... I had the pleasure of having one a few weeks ago and all I can say is wow...awesome stick! It knocked me on my arse, I give it two

I'd try and get a replacement box as well, especially after paying that kind of money. Let us know what happened!

I have several boxes and they all came perfect with maybe only 1 or 2 misaligned bands. But by the looks of the pics you showed your cigars were not stored properly (maybe some mold?) and were thrown around a bit. What was the vendor?

Both the vendor in question and Padilla have stepped up to the plate and this is now being handled. I'm sending the box back and will let you all know what happens when the replacement box arrives.

Off to a great start of a resolution. Hopefully this was just a one time fluke.

Greetings!

The truth of the matter regarding the damaged box is that the website which provided this box is not even an authorized retailer of Padilla Cigars.
When I was made aware of this situation, I quickly contacted Marc and naturally asked where he obtained this box.
We make a very limited quantity of cigars and to tell you the truth, any and every order that goes through our office passes through Ernesto's hands as well as mine.
Hell, we package most of the orders as well!

Long story short, when we found out the name of the website, we had never even heard of it. When we contacted them, they did not want to tell us where they received the product from.
Thus, situations like this arise where someone has received an obviously bad box and just by the look of it, I knew there was more to it than an oversight at the Little Havana factory.
Moving forward, we are marking all of our 1932 & 8/11 boxes with special codes that will allow us to find out what tobacconist originally ordered it. With such a small production, we cannot allow anyone to receive a subpar product and let alone not even know who the supplier was.

That being said, I appreciate the support on this forum and look to contribute more in the near future.

All the best,
