After the show last night the wife and I were watching the previews of next weeks show and saw Jack threatening to cut off some fingers. Anyone see this? Was that what I thought it was in his hand that he was going to use to do the deed? :D

I have a confession...I have never, ever, seen even one episode of this show. I truly believe I am missing out on something, but still have never committed to actually watching it. Also...at this stage of the game, to understand the show, would I have to go back to Season 1? i.e., would I even be able to get what's going on if I started watching now?

you'd probably have to go back to the beginning of last season to understand what's happening this season. if you have netflix, i believe they have last season on dvd available.

Looked like the Revolution Cigar Scissors...
I believe the consensus on them is that they would be best used as an impliment of torture and not a cigar accessory!
I think there is another product out there that looks similar too...

I agree with ROb, this season basically began at the end of last season, which DID have reference to the season before.

That being said, will you miss some things if you started to watch a new season without seeing the previous, definately. But it isn't necessary. All you need to know is McGyver learned all his tricks from Jack. If Jack is on a desert island with a broken Swiss Army and a cell phone with a dead battery, he can build the Enterprise, and that he can kill you with a spit ball!!!

It almost looked like a pair of scissor cutters, but I didn't pay that much attention till my brain caught up, and I realized what he was holding.

Like you, the scene had passed and it took me a minute to register. I tivo'd back to the scene and told the wife "Hey, he has cigar scissors in his hands........ by the time the brain caught up I started massaging my fingers with a little shudder of "yikes" :0 thats gonna hurt.

As far as trying to pick up the show I agree it would be best to watch last seasons first. Keep in mind that each season is suppose to be a time frame of 24hours so if you tune in now you've missed quite a lot. Hell, if you're going to watch last years you just as well watch the one before that as the story line does cross over with some of the characters. I still prefer the first season..... they're starting to stretch the believability of the show a bit...... LOL... thank god they have Jack Bauer to make it believable. ;)v

It looked like one of these.. poo Russian bastard does not stand a chance when jack starts the interrogation!

I dont think you need to go back to 1 to understand what is happening now...but it was a GREAT season to watch...so I would recommend watching season 1...IF you want to get into this season once it is out on DVD...watch last season FIRST...

I thought it was a pair of Klein cable cutters... But whatever it was, I had flashbacks of Denzel Washington in "Man on Fire" clipping fingers off of the guy with his hands taped to the steering wheel.

Didn't catch the previews for next week, but figured this weeks episode was a transition one, setting up next week and beyond. Not much action until the end.

Considering the production staff and many of the actors are big cigar smokers (they built their own on-set smoking lounge during either the first or second season according to the CA interview with KS), it's no surprise.

Right company, but it was actually a pair of these.

Yep - that's what it looked like to me as well...
Yep. I have heard mixed reviews on how well they actually work. It seemed to work fine on the cigar and on his pinky though. Maybe it isn't that bad after all. :whistling:
