"Clean Indoor Air Act" Senate Bill No. 246 and Proposed Tobacco Tax Bill

At this very moment in Harrisburg, there is feverish activity taking place to institute two pieces of legislation : a strict smoking-ban and an OTP tax throughout all of Pennsylvania. If the legislature approves these bills, cigar smoking will effectively be banned statewide, taxes will impact businesses and consumers. Also cigar taxes will most likely increase every year. You need to contact your local State Representative immediately and help fight this madness! Here are some bullet points to consider before you contact your representative :

Clean Indoor Air Act - Senate Bill No. 246
- If the legislature approves this bill, cigar smoking will effectively be banned statewide. This includes restaurants, cigar bars, private clubs, outdoor establishments, bars/taverns and more.
- If this bill gets passed into law as written, you will not be able to smoke anywhere and cigar smokers will be treated like criminals. To ban smoking statewide would be an egregious infringement upon our personal freedom as taxpaying residents of Pennsylvania.

Proposed Tobacco tax Bill
- A weight based tax, as proposed $0.036 per cigar, would be extremely difficult to track from a retailers and consumers perspective. Although this is not very high as proposed, it will certainly rise every year.

We have reviewed the bill and are shocked by how far it reaches. There are hardly any exemptions. As cigar smokers, we must work together to combat this latest attempt at overreaching at the expense of our rights as individuals.

At Ashton we are doing all we can by working directly with lobbyist and elected legislators, but we need your help too! Please contact your State Senators and Representatives today to voice your great displeasure with these two pieces of legislation.

Preserve your right to enjoy cigars!

P.S. To find out who your representative is, go to www.pa.gov on the internet. Under left column "Start Here", select - Contact Your Legislators. Page opens and choose either PA Representatives or PA Senators. Page opens for selection of Legislator to be made.

Sincerely,
Ashton Distributors, Inc.

I don't know what you think but I'm writing a letter to them!
