I have a close friend who is an ex-marine and is currently a sniper on the Cleveland SWAT team. He and I gave a bit of a send off to a young friend who is now returning home from Iraq.

I would like some suggestions on a special smoke for the three of us to have when he gets home.

We have about 30-40 days before he gets home so I thought I would get some suggestions to give me time to get them and make sure they are perfect when he gets here.

The smoke will be preceded by a huge steak, and enjoyed with a good bottle.

I'd say a big, dark Padron. Very nice cigars but not especially hard to find if you have a little time to look. Kind of depends what you three like, though. I'm sure you'll get the default Opus X, Anejo and ISOM answers, so good luck. :)

Sound like a great time but let me give you a minor lesson in Marine Corps etiquette. The is only one EX-marine, no matter what the news media says, the rest of us are prior Marines or former Marines.

If you have a lot of time then a Padron 1964 "A" or Opus X "A". Less time could do a Diamond Crown #7 Maduro, or Diamond Crown Maximus Churchill. They would certainly do it for this old Jarhead.

And if you're wondering, the EX-Marine is Lee Harvey Oswald.

I think the cigar shouldn't compete with the company, but should compliment the occasion. If you pull out any decent cigar it would go great with the company, unless there's a snob in the group.

Me, I would go get a handfull of AVO Domaine 50's and call it an evening.

x2

The company is almost as important then the sticks. But no one can turn away from a forbidden X.

I second the Diamond Crown Maximus. Is he a smoker or not is the question. If he isn't an avid smoker, go slightly milder. AVO, Hemi, Don Carlos come to mind. The latest Master Blend is a very good cigar also. For a stout cigar I would go with the Diamond Crown Maximus, Opus, VSG, LFD Ligero...
