Some more lawn advice...

For the last 2 years, my lawn has had these light spots. They look similar to the grass, but when they grow out longer, they start to look more like a weed! I've overseeded a few times, and I fertalize on a regular schedule! I'm a little "anal" :blush: when it comes to my yard so... Any ideas or advice?

it's kind of hard to tell without seeing it close up also. do those little spots produce little seedheads a couple of times a year? like right about now and then late fall-ish? if so, it might be Poa annua, or annual bluegrass. while many do consider it a weed, it's something that people in our climates just have to deal with.
 
Since none of you live near me I will share one secret to having the greenest grass on the block. "Ironite" get it at Lowes don't use the spray, use the stuff you buy by the bag, the neighbors will be jealous as mine.
 
It's definitely a grassy weed. I almost think it could be Bahia, but i don't think they have that out there. Take some close ups

That or, crabgrass if you have that out there. Do you put a weed and feed down. That stuff usually causes crab grass to turn a pale color but, doesn't kill it and greens up the fescue. Looks similar to some of my lawns in the past.
 
i think it might be a little early yet to be seeing that much crabgrass. it's a summer weed and really starts to do well once the heat gets here. that's not to say we shouldn't be thinking about it now :whistling: premergence is right around the corner!

Bahia is another warm season grass that we won't see break dormancy up here yet. it would still be brown most likely.

lol, yeah, but I guess it wouldn't keep growing if that was it.

Almost looks like an iron deficiency problem, but it wouldn't just be in spots like that.

The spots almost lend that it's a weed of some sort......still looking David....this one isn't in my book. It may in fact be the clap.

I use the Scotts Turfbuilder Summerguard, in the summer. It has insect control.

Poa annua

Sorry to say that it is a very well adapted grass (that we think is a weed) that is a prolific seed producer. This is the pane in the arse that golf course superintendents deal with everyday. When things are good (cool weather, enough water, adaquate sunlight, etc.) it does well. But when things go bad, it craps out quickly. Being that it produces so much seed, and germinates quickly, it is the first to fill in any weak spots in the lawn. You can cut it out, but it will just come back in time. If you kill it (glyphosate), it will be the first to come back unless you fill the spots with sod.

Those seedheads are another characteristic of what annoys people and why they consider it a weed. We tend to cut other grasses lower than the height at which they would prduce seeds.

I hate that crappy green color too brother!
