Options for tracking a Global Priority Mail package?

I sent a package of nice cigars to a BOTL from down under about 2 weeks ago. It was sent out via Global Priority Mail, which states "about 5 business days" for delivery time. Sadly, the package still has not arrived.

Is anyone aware of any way to properly track said packages? Any options available to me?
 
If there was some tracking number than target botl can ask his post office for international packages if they already have it registered.
If there was not tracking or insurance number than target botl can ask his local post office if they get any international package for him.





Unfortunatelly I think I know who is the target botl, and in his beautiful country he cant get cigar gifts, and even 1 cigar can be stopped in customs office, and thats the place where he should go and ask...
 
Depends on what you put on the Customs slip for it's contents and value. I've had packages never reach there destination(Ekans during WAR). Some will get held if the customs people don't trust the value you put on the slip. Do they allow tobacco to be shipped to Austrailia?
 
I looked into this when living in Sweden and with USPS, there's nothing to do but sit, spin and pray.
 
It will always be longer than 5 days. The fastest I have had a Global Priority hit me is I think a week. I have had some that took upwards of 2 weeks. And that's just a simple hop over the border...not halfway across the world.

Yup, what he said, and I don't think I've ever had one arrive in a week.

When I did my Newbie Sampler on CS, it took 27 days from mailing for the gars to arrive on my doorstep (by USPS Global Priority) and that was after (as opposed to including) the 9 days it took for him to receive the money order.

The issue is almost always Customs, not the mail.

The country parcel was sent to can get cigar gifts as my last box of Short Story was sent a a gift, it was opened buy Customs and forwarded to me at no charge.
It is correct about 1 cigar getting charged customs, but I have also had packages of 75,80 and 55 cigars go straight past customs so it is the luck of the draw.
The target BOTL would find it easier to trace if he had the tracking number as the package has not reached target post office yet.And may well be in Customs. although I know that after 2 weeks any package not claimed at Customs is returned to sender.
I would also like to say that I purchase 95% of my Cigars from a shop in PA and usually receive Cigars in 5 to 14 days with no holdup at Aussie customs.

I called the 800 number for USPS today, but since the package was sent via Global Priority Mail, there is no tracking number at all.

The only number that exists is the number on the customs form:

I have no idea how to track this further. Any help/insight is welcome.

My understanding from discussing things with friends in Australia is that cigars ARE allowed, but only a certain number of grams of cigars can be sent at any one time to avoid import duty. I remember having to split up packages sent to one BOTL down under in order to avoid this situation.

I did properly declare them as "gift cigars" with a reasonable value on the customs form.
 
I have had global priority packages take 3-4 weeks to get to their destination. I have found better luck going with UPS. I sent Newfie a package a couple of months back that took less than a week to get there. They are comparible in price (if not less expensive).
 
When I get a tracking number from the US, as soon as the parcel passes into Canada, I can usually track it on the Canada post site. The same may be the same of Aussie post.
 
Andrew, this customs form number can be helpful. I dont know how its in AU but here in Poland, if package has no tracking number the post offices register them with this customs form number. I think target botl should ask in his post office if they get a package with that number. That would be the best thing that can be done now I think.
 
Looks like we have a happy ending... and not the massage parlor kind either. The package was sent via USPS Global Priority Mail to Australia (normally 3-5 business days for delivery).

Well what a unreal tale mate
I had notice of intending package from Moki so was waiting in eager anticipation for its delivery.
It is not often I am gifted with something like this,so it was a real buzz for me.
Unfortunately after waiting for three weeks,going down to my local post office three times, phoning Aussie Post lost parcels, phoning Aussie customs and re phoning Aussie post. I realized my package was not going to get to me

Got home from work tonight after posting a small but deadly bomb, to find a card to pick up a parcel..
And lo and behold there it was....Sitting in my post office the whole time waiting to be picked up by a Mr Welch?????????? Of the United States

Why would he pick it up from you.

We are very sorry Mr Murphy we are but simple Australians. We sometimes find simple Weeding,Whiting and Awifmytic a bit challenging at times

I still don't understand why they thought it was address to ME rather than being from me. Dave, how did they finally figure out it was FOR you?
 
They were about to send package back to Dave Murphy of St Leonards, when a postal worker that could read at a 12 year old level, Saw the error and sent me a card to pick package up.
I am not surprised you do not understand why this happened.
I do not understand myself, and I can read to the level of a 11 year old(and beyond on a good day).
I hope this makes it easier to understand. I guess New Australians do not read English very well.
Ps, The Cigars were in perfect condition but the packaging looked as if it had been to Antarctic and back.
