Satellite phones

Seriously, i'm looking at getting a Sat. phone for when i'm offshore fishing (emergency use), and when on other 'off the beaten path' adventures. Looking at Globalstar service, and a Qualcom 1600 phone. Any advice / feedback from Sat. phone owners?

That's Iridium, and up until recently, a lot of the ships I service used them. They work good stateside.
