Need to know how many characters you guys use when searching for something. Right now, the min required is 3 characters. We may need to recompile the database to allow for faster and more efficient search results, however the only drawback is that it will require a minimum of 4 characters when performing a search. Is that a major problem with anyone?

Each word in the search query must be at least 4 characters EACH.

I've tried searching on 3 or even 2 (I know, it won't) characters before, but I'm willing to accept the limits for speed.

It really depends. I usually try to use a whole word/idea/phrase. I.E. Cubana Series R, Gran Cru, Petite Tat, Cohiba EL...

I'm assuming that some of the smaller search words would not be usable, but I think we all could manage. I'd say give it a try.

I like this boards search engine more than others because it allows me to search using only 3. there's alot of abbreviations that are 2-3 that are really hard to search for on the boards that require 4.

is there a way we could just add an asterisk to the 3 to make it 4? 123*?

It's your board, do what you gotta do.

I almost always use complete words.

Sometimes when I can't find something in the forums pretty quick, I use Google's "Site:" search. It's very effective.

4 letter word searches would make box code research and common cigar acronyms ( PAM, PAN, BTL, BBF..) impossible.

The only reason I would favor 3 character instead of 2 is for those instances when I have to search for a cigar name or box code with only 3 characters. For example, many people refer to vsgs only as vsg, not Ashton VSG. That would make a search on them trickier. Could also be tricky if you were looking into a box code but there was no factory code included in the discussion. I usually find ways around this sort of stuff but just my 2c

Late to the game but I do use 3-letter search phrases fairly regularly.

Kirk's got a good point.

Since I only come here to look at the "boob" and "butt" photos that AVB posts, I think having a four limit search would work fine for me. :D :p
