Trying to play Shadowrun on my pc, this is the message I keep getting

The processor speed on this computer is too low to run Shadowrun. This computer appears to be capable of running at a faster speed but may be currently running at reduced speed to conserve power.
Your computer's current processor speed: 795 Megahertz
Your computer's maximum processor speed: 1729 Megahertz
Minimum required processor speed: 1400 Megahertz
If you are running a notebook on battery power and can switch to AC power, you should do so at this time.
To adjust the power plan for this computer:
Click Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, and Power Options.

Here is my computer info
System: Windows XP Media Center Edition / SP2
Dell Inspiron I6400
Intel Core Duo T2250 @ 1.73 GHz
1 GB RAM

I am using the Max Performance setting on the laptop power settings. Can any of you computer Gurus help a poor Army boy out?

Thanks
Tim

Just as an educated guess I'd say you need to look at the processor settings in the bios. Besides that I don't have a clue off hand.

Looks like the powersave settings are set conservatively or inappropriately. I have my laptop set so that when it is plugged into AC, it runs at max speed.

Morning Tim,

This site helped me out quite a bit http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/ Lots of info and a really good response time to questions. You're definitely running some bare mins to play Shadowrun (or any of the just out high end games). What kind of video card do you have?

It is also possible that the PC is running just fine, but the game is mis-detecting the actual operating speed. I'd check the game site on line and look for any patches, updates, FAQ's, etc.

Good Luck - B.B.S.

just looked at the bios on my dell laptop. I have a 1.66 duo core. The bios says its running at 1.g. Unfortunatley, Dell has the mutliplier and speed adjuster locked. You would have to find a 3rd party bios or software to make the adjustments. They are out there but if you dont what you are doing you could be asking for trouble. clocking a processor requires better cooling/ higher voltages which is tough for laptop.

Lots of desktops out there at some decent prices nowadays that would run the game no problem. Of course, if you're like me, funds aren't usually available. :(

Check to see if hyper threading can be turned off...or the app run in a certain mode.

After checking around, you guys are right it does claim to be a Vista game. It will run on XP, because it runs on my laptop, even if I get the underspeed message.

Good thing I only paid 3 bucks for the game, just about the only good thing about Iraq! All the information I found online says that the PC platform is crap, and that the Xbox 360 is better. I really like the game. I like the use of magic and other stuff in the FPS platform.

Thanks for all the advice, oh, I reset some of my power settings, and I don't get the message as often now, only if I am running something in the background.

Hey Tim, have you tried F.E.A.R.? I play quite a few games (Shadowrun, Bioshock, Halo 3, etc.) and I have to tell ya, that FEAR is one helluva game! I play on a 55" Sony Wega with 1000 watt surround and let me tell ya, that game gave me nightmares (I kid you not). Late at night, all the lights off, then wham...some freaky shizzle. First shooter with awesome graphics, the audio is excellent. I have the game, if there's any way to get it to ya let me know and I'll send. Should run fine on your PC.

I love FPS, I am not very good, my 13 year old whips me all the time at Halo2, but I still love them. I have not tried Bioshock yet, and FEAR has been on a short list on must have titles, just never got around to getting it. I was just informed by the wife that I have a Wii waiting for me at home, and I will be getting a 360 upon my return as well, so I should have no shortage of games to play. Also I am into MMORPG, I play,m or will start again, Guildwars....so hooked.....

Thanks for the offer, but my addy is about to be closed here in Iraq and sending anything to me would likely result in a missed package.

Just let me know any time if you want me to send. It's just sitting here in the box. You take care over there and hurry up and get home safe and sound (betcha don't hear that enough! :D )

I am about to pick up bioshock, hell for 3 bucks who could pass it up....

also getting Alpha Prime and Supreme Comander (RTS)

Bioshock is great, you should also check out Halflife 2, and the associated mods (counterstrike, day of defeat, team fortress 2 etc)

Also, if you like RTS I'd recomment starting with the best RTS of all time: Stercraft.
It's extremely dated, but none have compared since in thier excellent balance and subtlety..
