Let me first please note that this is not a rant directly about Cross Border Shopping (a hot topic now with the strength of the Canadian Dollar), but instead, a rant about individuals I class as “sincere hypocrites” (there’s an oxymoron for ya).
Wiki says “Hypocrisy” is “the act of condemning or calling for the condemnation of another person when the critic is guilty of the act for which he demands that the accused be condemned.”
Note that while I may not agree with someone’s Political or Religious (or any subject) opinions and views, I have a great deal of respect for anyone who lives by their beliefs.
Anyway, this being an automotive area regarding employment, it’s a big thing about buying North American built vehicles (as I know it is in the US). Very often you’ll see cars with bumper stickers that say:
Out of a job yet?
Keep buying foreign!!
Well, Saturday afternoon we went to the Detroit ‘Burbs to do some grocery shopping and the Bride wanted to check a few clothing stores for sales too. As we’re in line to go through US Immigration, directly in front of us was a spankin’ new Dodge mini-van (looked like mom & dad and 3 kids inside) bearing the above mentioned bumper sticker, and 2 more stickers; one for the Flyers and one for the Avalanche. I figured and thought to myself “Look at this fugger sporting that sticker and going shopping n the States” but knowing how many here in the area have family and friends in Detroit, I thought nothing more of it.
We went on our merry way and spent the afternoon shopping as planned, had dinner and basically took our time getting back. After we came back across the Border to Windsor, The Bride remembers she needs some paper towels, toilet paper and cleaning / laundry supplies, so she asks me to take a detour to Wallymart.
I drop her off at the door and go find a place to park. I park next to a mini-van, and lo and behold, the vehicle is bearing the same 3 stickers as the van described above, in the same places, and it’s the same colour van. I get out of the car and take a gander inside, and it’s chock full of bags from Target (none in Canada), Krogers (same, none this side) and JC Penny (ditto). So, safe assumption that it’s the exact vehicle I was behind at the border, right??
Well, as we say where I come from, I got right fuggin twisted. Here’s this asswipe showing off a sticker on his vehicle about not buying foreign, and his whole day of shopping was either in the United States, or at Walmart (and we all know where most of their products come from).
WTF is with people like this?? You have this guy, who "could possibly" be an Auto Worker in the very plant where his vehicle was made, who wants everyone to buy North American vehicles so he can keep his job, and then proceedes to but anywhere else but Canadian products, so he obviously isn't worried about anyone elses job.
Thanks for letting me vent!!!
