IMO
Some of the "Double" brands use a wrapper and a binder-- perhaps of the same type, certainly of different quality, but if its a matter of flavor profile, a leaf that doesn't look good enough to be a wrapper and so is called a binder should still fit the bill.
Some use two true wrappers, of the same general type (Cam or maduro etc, etc) but not necessarily the same leaf--maybe a Nic maduro outside and broadleaf inside, for example.
Some use the barberpole method, not just for the aesthetics, but to get the flavor of 2 true wrappers on the cigar.
Bottom line, as usual, is that it matter less what they call it, and it matters more what it tastes like...TO YOU. I don't think any of the manufacturers are trying to fool or confuse anyone with their "Doubles". So, if the IDEA catches you, try one. If you like it, there you are. If not, one down and a million others to try.
By the way, I wouldn't be me if I didn't mention that we produce a line of these type of cigars, in Maduro/Maduro, Cameroon/Cameroon and even Conn. shade/Conn. Broadleaf versions. But I won't name them, cause I'm not trying to sell them here.
