Have you tried going to your local seafood market? Stone crabs are pretty common thing up here in New England. In high school I worked in a fish market and we used to get tons (literally) of these in.

Stone crabs in New England....ummm, different crab.
There are lots of Dungeness crabs around here this time of year but never had a Stone Crab. Mmmmmmmm ....... fresh, sweet dungeness crab with a sour dough round and some garlic butter.

Funny you mentioned that David because I will be having some of those when I get out there in a couple of weeks.
As for stone crabs, living here in South Beach and the Florida Keys, I've never had to order stone crabs on line. But, if I was going to do so, I'd search out some fishmongers in the Keys. These guys are great:

I still remember chasing a loose blue crab around the kitchen while my wife stood on a kitchen chair hollering at me to "Catch him!". Yeah, I'm trying but he's fast, scared and then, really pissed off!
For what it's worth, it's just about impossible to catch a wet, mad crab with salad tongs.
Days later when we were telling this story, somebody asked me "You iced them down, didn't you?"
Ice? What's that for?
